While walking through the streets of Mexico, I am impressed with the Mexican people; their culture, character and zest for life. Musician, Composer, Drummer, Mixed-Media Artist, Band Leader of "Ratatet"

I started my life as a professional drummer at 13 years, a visual artist 20 years later, now I'm also an active composer and band leader of my own neo-jazz sextet, Ratatet.

In addition to being an active performer and artist, I teach drum lessons, workshops and ensembles at schools and Jazz camps throughout the Bay Area. My teaching is based at California Jazz Conservatory in Berkeley and Cal State East Bay in Hayward.

Music and Visual Art are two different modes of expressions for me. Both seem to function as positive feedback loops for me, and I hope, others. I'm striving to integrrate the two art forms in both a personal and social context.

Jackie Huss Hallerberg Literature, Teacher/Instructor, Teaching Artist for Youth Jackie Huss Hallerberg is a Sonoma County Poet-Teacher for California Poets in the Schools and also serves as its Board President. She holds several academic degrees (including a teaching credential) and teaches in an experiential manner. During the past three years, she has brought poetry to over two thousand Sonoma County students ranging from K-12 in a variety of settings including public and private schools, Valley of the Moon Children’s Home, and summer arts camps. She is especially interested in reaching at-risk students who might be underserved in their communities. Jackie’s poetry has been featured in many publications. Her chapbook, Along Poetic Lines, and CD, Poems of Motherhood, were self-published. She is a member of the Squaw Valley Community of Writers.

John Harden Design, Film, Graphic Design, Media, Video I'm a screenwriter and director of film and video. My short film "La vie d'un chien" ("The Life of a Dog") screened at top-tier festivals around the world, including exhibition at NY MOMA as part of the New Directors/New Films series. My screenplay "The Sensitivity Program" (co-authored with Skot Christopherson) was chosen as Best Feature Screenplay (Science Fiction Category) in the Austin Film Festival competition. My 16-minute science fiction drama NEW was shot in Sonoma County and debuted on the DUST network in 2021. Peter Hassen Mixed, Photography, Printmaking, Sculpture, Video, Visual Arts Peter Hassen is a visual artist based in Sonoma, California. His work focuses on themes of nature, science and spirituality. Working in a variety of mediums, such as painting, sculpture, photography and printmaking, Hassen seeks to create dialogue between these themes, and raise questions about our societies, cultures and their commonalities. Peter earned his B.F.A. in Studio Art from the University of Colorado, Boulder. He has exhibited his work, ranging from sculpture, painting and installation, in national galleries and public lands for more than two decades. From 2012-2014 Peter activated his Values Project series in the cities of Napa and Sacramento. Over 800 value words where stenciled in public parking lots in Napa and Sacramento in collaboration with city governments and local organizations. In 2021 Peter's monumental metal sculptures from his Cycles series were exhibited by the Sonoma Valley Museum of Art in the Sonoma Plaza.

Ash Hay Film, Media, Other, Painting, Printmaking, Sculpture, Visual Arts My art is diaristic and centered in the body; how it communicates with the earth, itself, and bodies around it. In my work, I explore ideas of gender expression, body acceptance, and radical softness. Fatness, my own and others’, comes up often as I am continually confronted with how fat bodies are treated and how they navigate this world. My use of large soft sculpture, techniques of paper layering in my paintings and works on paper, and a color palette rooted in the color pink, all support my overarching theme of softness as power. I am influenced heavily by the works of Loise Bourgeois and Kiki Smith as well as the lineage of fiber artists and crafters in my own family.

S. Hayes Ceramics Artisan, Ceramics I began my education in ceramic art at Santa Rosa Junior College in 2007. I took wheel throwing classes with Joel Bennett and sculpting classes with Hiroshi Fuchigami. I was able to discover the art of Pit Fire and Raku - low fire techniques I still practice today. I transferred to San Francisco State University in 2010, continuing my study in ceramic art. My first ceramic class at SFSU was wheel throwing taught by David Kuraoka, who is well known for his techniques and even named the 'State Living Treasure of Hawaii.' I began to develop my skills and found a deep interest in the potter's wheel and the concept of functional art. I continued taking classes from David and also Jeff Downing and Jane McDonald. Learning techniques from 3 very different teachers really helped develop my style of throwing. After one year at SFSU, I was hired as a production potter for a Sonoma County based ceramic business, creating functional pottery. Gaining this job gave me great motivation to continue my degree and become a professional ceramic artist. In 2012, I graduated from San Francisco State University with a Bachelor's Degree in Fine Arts, emphasis in Ceramics. I moved back to Sonoma County and developed my own home studio.

I began throwing in 1970, and had switched to hand-building by 1974. My work is primarily conceptual, and often whimsical in nature, though, on occasion, I do functional pieces. A forty-eight year career in Architecture and Civil Engineering drives my interest in "architectural", slab-built, forms. I generally prefer to use very little glaze, letting the clay body speak for itself. I have studied with Dan and Carol Goodsell, at Shibui Studio, in Paradise, CA; Jim and Mary Shorba, of Pye In the Sky, Jerome, AZ; Ann Peet Carrington, at The College of Marin; and various resident artists, at Sonoma Ceramics, at the Sonoma Community Center, Sonoma, CA

Michelle Hirsch Creative Sonoma Grantee, Mixed, Visual Arts Mixed Media Artist: I experiment with found material in my mixed media works. My recent collages and installations have incorporated materials such as syringes, bandages, masks, tree wound sealer, flagging tape, Venetian plaster and charred trees from the wildfires. There is always strong research component behind my work. I immerse myself in the environment for site specific projects. I work intuitively and projects will morph depending on material constraints and the direction of my research. As an immigrant, I am interested in the falsehood of the Other. The recurring themes in my body of work are related to identity and healing.
