My Path... Divergent visions gave rise to my creative present. A present refreshed by art as life and livelihood.

Experiences like the ‘Tubbs Fire’ that hit Santa Rosa serve to strengthen the ‘artist within me’. It foements subjective creative moments that utilize my past, present - and my future as focal lenses. Spontaneously, I chose The San Francisco Art Institute over The Rhode Island School of Design and the School of the Art Institute at Chicago for my formal Art education. I received my BFA in Interdisciplinary Art and Public Art. I’ve studied stone sculpture for 10 years with Master Sculpture-Ante’ Marinovic, one of Croatia’s premier stone sculptors and is considered a Croatian national treasure. I explore the collaboration between artist, media and tool in such a fashion as to give rise to multiple layers of compressed info within each piece I create no matter if it is a purely visual work or an interactive space or environmental art form. For me, art screams out into all aspects of my life. As an artist in western society, dogma and bravado go hand in hand with economic choice. Art is my life. If it’s not nailed down or permanently affixed, it’s in trouble of becoming art resource material. Well, upon further review, even that won’t deter me from considering an objects use in an art piece.

As an artisan, educator and pollinator of handcrafts and celebrations, she bridges the boundaries of life and death and of style and culture. With care and with respect and with an eye to both the history and the future of the holiday, she works in wax, wood, metal, tin, silk, paper, beading and clay in remembrance of los Muertos. She has taught children’s craft workshops, made parade art for the Grateful Dead, directed the Mendocino Coast Day of the Dead Festival, and was the only American volunteer in props and costumes at the 2017 CDMX Gran Desfile de Dia de los Muertos. She studied papier-mâché mask making in Venice, Italy, and Catrinas en cartoneria in Puebla, Mexico and she integrates new international ideas and techniques in the syncretic tradition of the holiday. Her studio - Peace, Love & Death is located in Fulton Crossing and houses a library of hard to find Muertos art and history in print and on video. She offers festival support, custom pieces, and individual and group classes.

paints her iconic animals and angels wherever her brush lands - whether it is recycled boards or tin flashing, fine art materials, or house paint - the sorts of things that end up in the colorful studio/garden of her well-lived-in Santa Rosa home.

My work is characterized by expressionist figurative imagery and brushwork, as well as a high key palette, bold composition and strong contrast. The mixed media paintings and drawings are made on a range of surfaces including recycled printing plates, door skin, aluminum flashing, building paper, mat board, canvas and paper. I work large or small scale, with fine artist's materials or recycled materials and house paint, and with classical or contemporary themes. I use real life, dreams, mythology, folklore and religious traditions. Pattern, symbolism and metaphor express the humor and pathos of the human condition Subjects include commonplace angels, rural blight, dogs and cats (frequently as symbols for male and female), and food. My art is about the connection between the sacred and the mundane. The basic necessities of life - food, clothing and shelter are always connected, on a deeper level to the primal and the sacred. My mother taught me from an early age to see the mystical and spiritual qualities in nature.

Jennifer Joyce, a native of Southern California, embarked on a life of creating functional and sculptural ceramics in 1995.

Joyce is a sculptor and ceramist whose body of work is both thoughtful and whimsical. She brings a unique background in dance, music, archaeology and photography to her art. As a past modern dancer and working archaeologist, Jennifer weaves lightness and whimsy, movement, dance and music into her pieces.

Jennifer opened her own ceramics school in Santa Monica, California in 1995 for 18 years and established another location in San Clemente in 2013. In her San Clemente studio she continued her ceramics school and also founded the Artists Studios of San Clemente, an artist studio collective that is still thriving.

Since moving to Sonoma County, Jennifer has opened her private studio to teaching ceramics and sculpture, has taught numerous classes and workshops at the Sonoma Community Center, teaches for the Mentor Program and has taught part-time at the Sonoma Academy in Santa Rosa. Her emphasis is on hand building, wheel throwing and figurative sculpture.

Mary Neuer Lee Artisan, Jewelry, Recovery Fund Grantee A metal smith all of my adult life, I have earned Jeweler's Certificates from the Santa Rosa Junior College and Revere Jeweler's Academy as well as a being a Certified PMC Artisan. Recently I completed a year long accreditation program with Hadar Jacobson and am now certified to teach her methods in the base metal clays. I have studied many metalsmithing disciplines at the Mendocino Art Center, the Richmond Art Center, the Arrowmont School of the Arts, TN, and with many individuals including Jim Binion, Yvonne Giambrone Martin, Jack de Silva, Florence Resnikoff, Linda Weis and many others. My work has been included in two of Hadar Jacobson's Metal Clay Handbooks and in the 2010, 2011 and the 2012 "PMC Guild Annual: Exceptional Work in Metal Clay". In the everchanging and new world of Metal Clay I earned my PMC Certification with Senior Instructors Sherry Fotopoulos and Sherry Viktora and worked with Metal Clay instructors Linda Kline, Holly Gage, Barbara Becker Simon, Lisa Barth, Terry Kovalchik, Wanaree Tanner, Carole Wood, Leslie Tieke and many others. I continue to take as many workshops as time and money allow. I can never decide which I like best; creating, teaching or learning!

Tove Norlander Artisan, Jewelry I was born and raised in Norway and have been designing jewelry in silver and gold for the last 40 years. My jewelry is made using the “lost wax method”. I first create the jewelry in wax, then it’s set in plaster and burned out in a kiln, eliminating the wax and leaving a cavity in the plaster in the shape of the finished product. Molten metal is then poured with centrifugal force into the cavity to form the jewelry. After the casting process comes the time consuming filing and the polishing. My designs have a simple, elegant and sculptural quality in which one can sense my Scandinavian background. I enjoy working directly with clients, creating jewelry to fit their individual style. Many pieces are created around natural stones which I select for their interesting colors and textures. I often mix silver and gold for a unique look. Custom wedding rings and special designs using precious stones are one of my specialties. My work can be seen in galleries in California and Sedona, Arizona. My work is also in a gallery in Norway and a museum in Stockholm, Sweden. I’ve had several exhibitions in the U.S., Norway, Sweden, Holland and Switzerland. My work has also been sold in Neiman Marcus and Saks Fifth Avenue stores.

My Trashion Fashion “Geyser Gown” tied for third place in 2018, and my “Planetarium” gown won the “Out of this World” award in 2019 at the Sonoma Community Center’s annual event. I was invited to model and display the gowns this year at the Daily Acts Climate Concert/SOMO event center, Rohnert Park, CA and at the Petaluma Village Network talk about Recycling. I do a one-woman show every year. This year was called “Nature’s Magic takes Wing” held in August of 2019 at the Petaluma Arts Center. I did record sales in just 3 weeks with a $1000 painting selling before we had barely opened the show. I presented a two month Geyser show at Old Faithful of California in Calistoga in 2018. I have participated in many first Thursday ArtWalks in the town of Sonoma over the last two years exhibiting at Sotheby’s on the Plaza of Sonoma, Jeff Cohn Cellars for a two month exhibit, a one night presentation at the Sonoma Valley Museum of Art, and this year at HomeBridge Mortgage. These opportunities to meet more of my community and new fans has been great. I love to participate every year at the Wine County Nature and Optics Festival and also at the G3 Marketplace in Sonoma. I annually have painted a wooden wine box award which is given to an award- winning filmmaker at the Sonoma International Film Festival. I have a new series of paintings in the works, new ways to create with fabric, a new Trashion Fashion design (temporarily on hold) and am busily sewing masks. I have lots of enthusiasm and energy to create! I hope to inspire others. If you are thinking about creating, I would say…“How about now?!”

Born in Fresnillo, Zacatecas, Mexico, Gloria came to the U.S. as a little girl and grew up in the agricultural Central Valley of California. At an early age, Gloria developed a love for humanities and the arts, and as a first generation college student, she went on to complete a dual Bachelor's degree in Psychology and Theater Arts (Dance) from Sonoma State University in 2011. She has directed, choreographed, and performed dance throughout the Bay Area, is a certified labyrinth walk facilitator, a handmade beadwork artist, and teaches children's dance and jewelry-making classes. In her professional life, Gloria has been heavily involved in arts nonprofits and organizations, most notably in managing fundraisers and events, outreach and communications, grants management, social media management, and overall business and professional development. Gloria is passionate about combining the use of arts and creativity, somatic awareness and expression, and inner and external understanding for individual and community healing. Her passion has developed into board participation and arts administration for a variety of local non-profits, and she is currently pursuing a PhD in Psychology with a concentration in Expressive Arts in a conjunction program between Tamalpa Institute and Meridian University.
