Joe Culpepper Performance Art, Teacher/Instructor, Theatre, Visual Arts I am a magician, educator and consultant who was born and raised in California. I wrote my doctoral dissertation on how magic effects are adapted across storytelling media. Some of my practice-based research and performance projects include the following:

Receiving a Black Rock City Arts Honoraria Grant to create Fascination — a participatory optical art installation at Burning Man 2019,

I actively perform, exhibit (optical illusion sculptures), teach (after-school classes, workshops, and university coursework), and help other artists and organizations with creative innovation. As co-editor-in-chief of the peer-reviewed academic journal Circus: Arts, Life and Sciences, I also work in English, French and Spanish with a global team to share cutting-edge performing arts research from around the world. Born in San Francisco, I grew up in Lucas Valley (Marin County) 15 years then, lived in Hopewell, New Jersey (between Princeton and Trenton) for 3 years, finishing high school. After graduation, chose to live in Bozeman, Montana (close to Yellowstone National Park and the Big Sky Ski Resort) for 5 years, attending Montana State University, earning degrees.

After obtaining a Bachelor's Degree in Business (Marketing Option) along with a Minor in Communication from MSU, I lived in Terra Linda (Marin County) for 6 years, continuing Multimedia studies, working.

In 1999 I moved to central Santa Rosa (Sonoma County, the "Heart of the Wine Country") and lived there for 10 years, attending a quality college for additional post-graduate studies. I broadened my education studying visual media (Computer Art, Applied Graphics, Desktop Publishing, Art, Multimedia, and web design) at Santa Rosa Junior College, while working.

With regards to my 11 years of college studies and two degrees that accompany two certificates (that relate to visual media composition and presentation), I have undertaken a variety of post-graduate studies and working in local businesses, I have expanded my knowledge of various programs that are applicable to corporate establishments and gained additional skill and knowledge of Multimedia and HTML, in pursuit of an occupation that relates to promotion, advertising or marketing.

I enjoyed the opportunity to develop my skills in project coordination, client services, problem solving and negotiating, applying my studies and abilities, seeking an opportunity where my experience, initiative and dedication to both personal and organizational goals will be valued.

Rene Dayan-Whitehead Artisan, Glass, Sculpture, Visual Arts Throughout my personal and professional life everything I have gravitated to has been related to form in three dimensions, dancing, costume design, product design, and now stone sculpture. As solid as stone may seem, it can be carved to seem light, soft, flowing, quite the opposite of the density, and inflexibility ascribed to stone. My work is an expression of the dance of form, movement and transformation. The forms emerge from a personal definition of alchemy, myth and time. Let’s dance. Through the creation of stone sculpture my work is to bring the power of beauty into focus. To use the power of beauty to expand, heal, teach, soothe, comfort and delight. paints her iconic animals and angels wherever her brush lands - whether it is recycled boards or tin flashing, fine art materials, or house paint - the sorts of things that end up in the colorful studio/garden of her well-lived-in Santa Rosa home.

My work is characterized by expressionist figurative imagery and brushwork, as well as a high key palette, bold composition and strong contrast. The mixed media paintings and drawings are made on a range of surfaces including recycled printing plates, door skin, aluminum flashing, building paper, mat board, canvas and paper. I work large or small scale, with fine artist's materials or recycled materials and house paint, and with classical or contemporary themes. I use real life, dreams, mythology, folklore and religious traditions. Pattern, symbolism and metaphor express the humor and pathos of the human condition Subjects include commonplace angels, rural blight, dogs and cats (frequently as symbols for male and female), and food. My art is about the connection between the sacred and the mundane. The basic necessities of life - food, clothing and shelter are always connected, on a deeper level to the primal and the sacred. My mother taught me from an early age to see the mystical and spiritual qualities in nature.

Jerry Dodrill Photography, Teacher/Instructor, Visual Arts "Jerry Dodrill is an adventurer and award-winning photographer who has traveled to remote corners of the world in search of unique perspectives and experiences. His immense talent and creative eye have been well recognized through international awards and exhibition in fine galleries, such as the Ansel Adams in Yosemite, Mountain Light, Mumm Napa Valley, and the Banff Center for Mountain Culture. This is important to me because I was taken under the wing of a retired photographer, Ron Emanuel, when I first moved to Sonoma county. I feel inspired to pay it forward to other aspiring artists. Helena Donzelli Artisan, Other, Recovery Fund Grantee Helena E. Donzelli Artist/Humanitarian Helena Donzelli spent the first many years of her career in the high tech industry in Silicon Valley. She has varied experience in ranging from recruiting, to Marketing & positioning then leaving the industry with her last position as a technical due diligence specialist for high tech investment and venture capital firms. During her time off, she persued her passion in the world of visual arts with plans of leaving high tech and creating for a living. In 2011, she moved to Sonoma County to bring this dream to fruition. Utilizing her background in Interior Design, she purchased furniture retail store in Healdsburg, Ca. Initially, She sought out training by Annie Sloan who lives in England and has a line of paint created just for furniture. She was also educated and trained to offer classes at the store teaching the chalk painting technique on furniture. She also offered custom painted furniture pieces as well as retail stock on the floor, all hand painted. After closing the store in 2014, she continued to teach classes in furniture painting for Benjamin Moore, local retail locations, in her local art studio and at Art Escape in Sonoma, Ca. Helena’s current creative venture was born out of losing her own home in the Northern California wildfires. She decided to make art out of the survived objects and posted her ideas on Facebook. Within 24 hours, she had 14 messages from other survivors asking her to make them art out of the charred objects. That was the beginning of her new business “Ressurected” in Sonoma- she acquired a warehouse as of January 1, 2018 and has been creating art for fire survivors as well as for retail sales. Helena also was commissioned to do an art installation at a new restaurant in Kenwood as a tribute to the community. Sara Downing Design, Functional Art, Furniture, Interior Design, Photography, Sculpture, Visual Arts I have spent the majority of my artistic career in photography, music and design+build fields. The majority of my photographic work over the last 25 years has been commercial in nature, with a focus on portraiture and architecture. Currently, my focus is designing and executing 2 and 3 dimensional large-scale photographic image installations for both residential and commercial applications. My work tends to reflect painterly and abstract forms and I often concentrate my efforts on textural worlds distilled from the often-labeled mundane. I aim to surprise audiences with a new way to experience photography in a physically immersive construct. The more I walk this earth the more apparent it is to me. Tapping into which thoughts and actions bring me joy conversely allows me to more fully identify that which I should let go. What works for our STUFF also works for our psyche. To cut through the din of external voices telling us any number of things; to come to rely on one's own gauge to determine what feels good, what feels nourishing, what feels inspiring.

My designs are not only inspired by nature, but derived from actual specimens collected, molded and organized by category before being recombined, remolded and reformed into new creations. My approach to art is like as a scientist, conducting experiments and collecting data to come up with theories as to why I love doing this so much. It gives me the greatest joy and satisfaction to create something new in collaboration with our Mother Nature. Judith Eisen Painting, Visual Arts Born in 1942, Judith was discovered at age 6 to be a prodigy in the area of painting, and given the opportunity to learn to paint in oils. Painting, exhibiting and selling artwork has been a constant throughout her life. Judith moved to Sonoma County in 1973, and still loves painting the beautiful landscape we have here. She is also committed to working in the community and has spent the last 11 years serving on the County's Area Agency on Aging Council. Her methodology includes working on site in watercolor, then using those images as references in her studio to create large oils. "I like to use watercolor to lay out the geometry of a landscape, keeping the image as accurate as possible. Then when I am working in oils, I can 'play' more, as i have the parameters, the structure, already down." She has an enduring love of painting limestone formations and has followed the trail of limestone, through many countries in Southeast Asia. She taught at the International School in Singapore in 1991 and 1992. After retiring in 1993, Judith spent almost seven years living on an island off the coast of Thailand, painting and selling artwork. Judith is an acknowledged world expert in the area of holography (3-D laser photography), creating the first moving hologram of scanning electron microscope information for the Smithsonian in 1980; for this, she was made a fellow of the Royal Microscopal Society (London) in 1987. She currently shelters-in-place painting in her garden.

Kate Foley-Beining Improvisation, Instrumental, Mixed, Music, Painting, Printmaking, Teacher/Instructor, Teaching Artist for Adults, Teaching Artist for Youth, Theatre, Visual Arts, Vocal I am a musician, artist, and professor of German Language and Literature. Music: I am a singer, performing the works of Joni Mitchell, backed by a jazz trio. I have developed music enrichment programs for elementary schools in Healdsburg and Geyserville where I have taught vocal music for over 10 years. Working with children in music is its own reward and I am aware of the rare good fortune I have to also be paid to do it. I am a classically-trained pianist, currently pursuing challenging selections from the repertoire of Schubert, Chopin, Liszt, and Bach. Art: Sight-size realism is the method I use in painting my oil still lives. I would call my work domestic realism since my favorite subject matter is my 1940s era chrome coffeepot in which my domestic surroundings are reflected around me as I paint. Decay, in the form of rusted objects and old leather books, is set against the sharp convex images reflected in the chrome globe, offering a visual irony that I find endlessly intriguing. I have shown and sold my pieces in juried shows. Language and Literature: I am an adjunct professor of German with an emphasis on women writers in German literary history. My doctoral research, using a feminist literary perspective, was published in my book The Body and Eucharistic Devotion in Catharina Regina von Greiffenberg's Meditations. Teaching German brings me joy and of course my college students are constantly engaged in music, art, and theater as they become speakers of German

ARTIST'S STATEMENT I strive to translate onto canvas the essence and wildness of this beautiful planet. I am a contemporary impressionistic oil painter using generous paint and vivid brushwork in a style called “first coup” (from the French, “au premier coup”). This is a one-layer painting technique where the painting (or each section of a large painting) is completed in one sitting while the paint is still wet – in other words, after the first pass. For me, this is the best way to impart the aliveness and emotional intensity of Nature. BIOGRAPHY I have been painting for 25 years. In a life-changing event, with no warning whatsoever, painting dropped into my life while I was in the flow of raising four fantastic kids. Though my technique has improved with use, this gift arrived as an already-developed skill that continues to astonish. I grew up extremely close to Nature and have been a tree hugger since my earliest memories, climbing them barefooted at every opportunity. Trees are incredibly special to me and I give them credit for keeping me healthy and connected. To give back, I first became a hydrogeologist. I was going to save the planet. This proved rotten with politics, so I retooled in the human potential movement, eventually writing a critically-acclaimed syndicated advice column, Straight Talk Advice, with contributions from youth panelists around the nation [2004-2016] [including the Santa Rosa Press Democrat]. It was important work, but I wasn’t happy. In 2017, I thought why not take this gift of painting – which I love most of all -- and contribute by sharing the beauty of Earth? Best decision EVER. Painting every day is like being in love and my paintings are essentially love letters to this amazing planet. The vivid contemporary impressionistic landscape paintings of my current period are a return to my painting roots which were dominated by this style. The generous paint, vivid brushstrokes and loose compositional style reflects the heart opening I feel out-of-doors. While hiking and backpacking, I drink in the scenery, take multiple reference photos, and often walk barefooted and sleep on the earth to further soak in the energy. Returning to the studio, I strive to translate onto canvas the peace, aliveness, and utter beauty I experienced. My paintings are in private collections throughout the United States and abroad. I enjoy the power of Photoshop to create my own visions, altered cameras for a change in perspective and alternative processes to explore and push past boundaries. Beyond the imagery I create, photography is a mediation for me, a quiet, restorative place that is as much about creativity as it is mindfulness.

Margo Gallagher Other, Visual Arts I am a life-long creative, artist, and part owner of Vibe Gallery in downtown Petaluma. My latest artistic endeavor, KaleidaStars, involves taking photos, printing them out, and cutting them up into hundreds of pieces and putting them back together again to ultimately create a personally designed large scale kaleidoscope. My focus is photographing street art, flowers, memorial pieces, or anything that moves me. I love bright colors! Most of my work is commission based, but I also have prints and cards at the gallery.

Nicole Rose Gelormino Arts Administration, Illustration, Mixed, Other, Painting, Printmaking, Sculpture, Teacher/Instructor, Teaching Artist for Adults, Teaching Artist for Youth, Visual Arts Nicole Rose Gelormino is a teaching artist and painter. A SF Bay Area native, Gelormino has maintained a studio practice alongside her career in teaching art and leading professional development in arts education for over a decade. In her studio practice, Gelormino is committed to the continued exploration of the nuances of personal memory, the body and internalized cultural paradigms. She employs the paint and painting methods in the process of reflection and discovery within the pscyho-visceral landscape. Gelormino holds a Single Subject Teaching Credential in Visual Art and recently served on the advisory panel to the California Department of Credentialing. She worked for a few years on the Teachers Advisory Group to the SF Museum of Modern Art, writing curriculum for their collection and special exhibitions. She has also worked in arts administration in schools and other non-profit and public agencies. Some additional settings she has taught in include: professional development for teachers in schools and museums, youth and families before and after school and at special events, summer arts programs run by the city of San Francisco. At Gateway High School, Gelormino also served as the Arts Department Coordinator and Teaching Coach for other teaching artists.

Lisa Damico And Gena Richman Printmaking, Teacher/Instructor, Teaching Artist for Youth, Visual Arts Lisa Damico* and Gena Richman**, are excited to offer you professional development integrating Social Emotional Learning and the Arts. We offer a staff development "special" condensed workshop or an expanded two session workshop either via Zoom or in person. Either will provide you with lessons you can do with your students the following day. The Arts and SEL pair perfectly together helping students gain and/or maintain a sense of well being in the classroom. The Arts provide students a way to learn, know and communicate aspects of themselves and others. Our PD is a make and take that will walk you through lessons to use at the beginning of the year which can be repeated as check-ins throughout the year. She provided professional development to California teachers and presented in state and national conferences through her association with the California Literature Project, integrating Visual and Performing Arts into teaching and assessing in Language Arts. Lisa retired after 32 years in the classroom and has now become a happy gardener and shamelessly spoils her Labrador Retriever. **Gena received her B.S. in Arts, followed by a K-12 teaching credential from SSU. She provided professional development to teachers on how to integrate the Arts into Mathematics during many sessions at the California Mathematics Conference at Asilomar. Gena retired after 20 years in the classroom and works out 5 days a week in order to keep up with her young grandson! Thank you for checking out Creative Sonoma!
