Local ocean and vineyard scenes are often sources of inspiration for Carolyn Jarvis’ oil paintings.
She is captivated by the process and challenge of creating colorful, spontaneous paintings that attempt to capture the outdoor light. She has been using a palette knife instead of brushes in recent oil paintings because she likes the freshness and color vibrancy. In addition to landscapes, she enjoys painting still life and abstracts.
For three years, she took painting classes with Van Waldron, who had been a student of the famous Russian master painter, Sergei Bongart.
Her paintings have been exhibited in local wineries, including Balletto, St. Francis and Chateau Diana, and in the Graton Gallery, Occidental and Valley Art Gallery, Walnut Creek, CA. Currently her paintings are shown at Artisans’ co-Op in Bodega and Hands Goods in Occidental, CA.
