Arts Educator, Illustrator, Comics Maker, Storyteller . . . .
My name is Mara Ramirez and I use they/them pronouns.
I teach both youth & adults, have similar approaches to both, and love both for different reasons : )
I’ve been teaching art with an emphasis in drawing and painting for the past 10 years. I’ve taught in a few different art studios for kids, as well as in public education programs for adult learning. I was mentored in the Emilia Reggio approach to teaching during my time at the San Francisco Children’s Arts Center which means I always center play and feeling good in my art lessons, for both kids and adults. During my time as a teacher, I have also worked privately 1:1 with people of all ages (2-seniors!) to create age appropriate, challenging, and engaging personalized learning plans, syllabi, and ongoing artistic relationships.
I am excited and open to new positions, particularly private lessons and courses. At the moment I have been conducting weekly 2 hour classes with a student who is 17, going into her senior year of high school, and eager to start thinking about college applications. Together we are building a portfolio around a central conceptual concentration and breadth of medium. I organize lessons, lectures, projects, writing assignments, and critiques!
Please visit my website to see current offerings. (I am also open for hire for illustration commissions!)
Excited to connect :’)
