Special Education and the Arts

Join the California Alliance for Arts Education, P.S. ARTS and the PTA for a webinar on February 10, 2021 about the intersections of special education, the arts and distance learning. This program will present findings from a two-year study examining the relationship between social emotional learning and participation in inclusive arts programs among students with disabilities and without disabilities. Presenters will offer case studies from the research study and discuss how special education programs have responded to the challenges and opportunities presented by distance learning during COVID-19. The conversation will include the perspectives of a school administrator, teaching artist, classroom teacher and parent. Learn more HERE.

Professional Development in Trauma Informed Teaching Practices

Offered through the Luther Burbank Center for the Arts, explore the types of trauma, how trauma impacts brain development, and how to identify behaviors that indicate a triggered response in a training on February 16, 2021. While teachers cannot fix students who have experienced trauma, participants will walk away with strategies they can implement in the classroom (and virtually) that will support a calm, safe environment, the healing process, and important tools for self-care. Learn more HERE.
