Student Arts Spotlight shares the good news of the arts making a difference in students’ lives in a monthly feature. The Sonoma County Arts Education Alliance is pleased to share the work of Analy HS Theater Arts Students and their teacher, Joseph Myers, for May 2021. Despite many challenges presented during the pandemic, students were featured in a virtual production of Clue! Congratulations, Analy High School!

Arts Integration Professional Development

iAspire Arts Integration Summit is open to all TK-6 educators in Sonoma County! iAspire 2021 will be an exciting and engaging learning experience, providing participants with the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to integrate the arts. Working with the iAspire team, participants will be creative, have fun, and learn more about the arts. Read more HERE.

2021 Arts Education Framework Consultancy Awardees

Congratulations to Guerneville School District and Horicon School District for receiving consultancy awards to create a district-wide plan to increase access and equity in arts education. Applications were submitted by these districts to determine how their district-wide priorities could be impacted by arts education. Funded through California County Superintendents Educational Services (CCSESA), districts will work with consultant, Karen McGahey, and utilize a template based on the Sonoma County Arts Education Framework

Student Music Showcase Summer 2021

Calling all student bands, groups, & choirs! Come showcase your musical talents in downtown Santa Rosa this summer! Open to student musical groups of all ages and kinds to perform in public for the the community. This Showcase is part of Downtown Santa Rosa’s Summer 2021 Open & Out Program. Read more HERE

Getting Equitable Access to Arts Education: Understanding the American Rescue Plan Act

With federal funds originating from the American Rescue Plan, right now is a unique opportunity to reach out to local school districts to learn and support how they are using these funds to support students’ social emotional needs and provide access to the arts. With more than $122 billion allotted to K-12 schools through this plan, this opportunity also allows focus on ensuring that underserved students that previously lacked access, are included in plans to provide more arts education opportunities.

Opinion: As students return in-person, here’s a reminder that arts and music are essential in education

Students receiving opportunities in arts education demonstrate increases of academic achievement. And the arts provide tools to share students’ stories and express their pandemic experiences. More steps are needed to support to support learning through the arts.
