Student Arts Spotlight

Student Arts Spotlight shares the good news of the arts making a difference in students’ lives in a monthly feature. The Sonoma County Arts Education Alliance is pleased to share artwork form Windsor Unified School District’s Migrant Education Arts Integrated Summer School. For a second year, students in grades TK-5 strengthened their academic, social-emotional, and cultural skills through music, dance, theatre, visual arts, and media arts integrated lessons. Over 60 students received this instruction.

Arts, Music and Instructional Materials Discretionary Block Grant – NEW FUNDING!

Available Fall 2022, this new, one-time funding of $3.5 billion would be distributed based on average daily attendance. Reach out to your school district to find out if they are receiving funds and how you can help with decision input to ensure funding is used for the arts education. How can this funding be used to build arts education infrastructure? Read this EdSource article or summary of Governor Newsom’s 2022-23 Budget.

On the November Ballot

  • County Superintendent Race 2022: Dr. Amie Carter is the lone candidate actively running for Sonoma County Superintendent in the November 8 election.
  • California Proposition 28, the Art and Music K-12 Education Funding Initiative is also on the November ballot. The initiative would provide more than $900 million every year to arts and music education in California public schools allocated from the state General Fund. This initiative does not raise taxes.
