Zoya Ahmed (Santa Rosa) was named as Sonoma County’s first Youth Poet Laureate by California Poets in the Schools. Read more HERE

California Arts Council announced a record $30 million in funding distributed throughout California via their 2020-2021 grant programs, with many recipients in Sonoma County. Read more HERE.

Creative Sonoma (Santa Rosa) was awarded two National Endowment for the Arts grants for 2020-2021:  an Our Town grant to help local communities to creatively re-open by incorporating artists into their plans, and an Art Works grant to support a cultural tourism effort in partnership with Sonoma County Tourism. More details on the grants, and how to get involved with funded projects, will be released soon. 

Green Music Center (Rohnert Park) and Liz Lerman – internationally-recognized award-winning choreographer, writer and teacher – are recipients of one of ten Hewlett 50 Arts Commissions this year. The project will receive $150,000 to develop Lerman’s “Wicked Bodies (Sonoma)” as an evening-length dance-theater piece. Read more HERE

San Francisco Bay Area Theatre Critics Circle Awards held a virtual awards gala in early June, and four Sonoma County theatres received awards for productions in 2019. Read more HERE

  • Left Edge Theatre (Santa Rosa) – Ensemble Award, Drumming with Anubis 
  • Sonoma Arts Live (Sonoma) – Original Music Award, Merman’s Apprentice 
  • Spreckels Theatre Company (Rohnert Park) – Costuming Award, and Entire Production-North Bay Award (100 seats or fewer category), Miss Bennet: Christmas at Pemberly 
  • Transcendence Theatre Company (Sonoma) – Musical Direction Award, and Entire Production-North Bay Award (300 seats or more category), A Chorus Line 

 
Sebastopol Documentary Film Festival announced it has attained recognition as an Academy Award® Qualifying Festival for the Documentary Short Subject category. Read more HERE
