The CARES Act (Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act) was adopted by Congress in late March 2020 and implementation is under way. Starting April 3, 2020, small businesses and nonprofits can apply for Small Business Administration (SBA) loans and loan forgiveness, and starting April 10, 2020, independent contractors and self-employed individuals can apply.
