Pastel Portraits

Mon. June 4, 11, 18, 25, July 2 and July 9 6:30-8:30pm

Six -weeks $300 • $65 general (single class) • $60 PAC members (single class)

Learn how to capture realistic portraits in pastel (hard and soft), alongside professional artist Mary Beth Sasso. Students will learn step-by-step techniques; how to render and interpret realistic portraits from life and photo references, gain a thorough understanding of line, value, form/shape, composition, texture and color. We will also discuss various papers, tools, materials and the importance of the underdrawing.

Pastel Painting Techniques for Realistic Drawing Skills

Drawing is a very learnable skill. It’s less about talent and more about learning to observe the world around you in a new and different approach. This class is for those who want to learn how to capture realistic drawings in charcoal or pastel. Students will learn realistic drawing techniques one step at a time; how to render and interpret realistic landscapes, flowers, still life and portraits from life and photo references. You will gain a thorough understanding of line, value, form/shape, composition, texture and color and most of all a brand-new confidence.

Drawing with Charcoal Pencils

Thursday June 7, 14, 21, 28, July 5 and July 12 6-8:30pm

This class is for those who want to learn how to capture realistic drawings in charcoal or graphite. Most importantly you will gain a thorough understanding and importance of the underdrawing. You will learn about the best tools, papers and materials available to create beautiful and realistic artwork. Learn the techniques about measuring, line, value, form/shape, composition, texture, values and lights and darks. You learn to draw what you see and not what your brain perceives.
