This outdoor workshop on Making Armatures using natural materials will be held Saturday, June 12, 10am to 4pm at the studio of Artist/Papermaker Jane Ingram Allen, 5017 Maiden Lane, Santa Rosa, CA 95409.
Announcing an Outdoor Art Workshop in Santa Rosa “Making Armatures for Sculpture Using Natural Materials and Basketry Techniques”, Saturday June 12, 2021, 10 AM to 4PM at Jane Ingram Allen’s studio, 5017 Maiden Lane, Santa Rosa, CA 95409
“Making Armatures for Sculpture” will cover how to use natural materials such as reed, bamboo and branches from willow, mulberry, grape vines and other local materials to construct mixed media sculptures or armatures that can have handmade paper, fabric or other materials added later. Participants will create their own design for an armature or sculptural form using natural materials and natural twine. We will learn methods for joining and creating sturdy armatures or sculpture constructions. This workshop is designed for beginners or more advanced mixed-media fiber, basketry and papermaking artists.
Participants should bring hand clippers, scissors, freshly gathered branches or other natural materials, and natural string or twine they want to use. Jane will also provide some materials and tools, and we will gather materials nearby. Bring a lunch and drink for a short lunch break. I have had the Vaccine and hope you have too. We will all wear masks and maintain social distancing for this workshop that will be based in Jane’s garage studio and outdoors at her home (5017 Maiden Lane) in the Rincon Valley area of Santa Rosa, CA.
