AUDITION CALL: "The New Century" Pegasus Theater Company

Pegasus Theater Company is holding auditions for The New Century, written by Paul Rudnick and directed by John Rowan. It will run for 12 performances at the Mt. Jackson Masonic Hall in downtown Guerneville, beginning June 22 and ending July 15, with Friday and Saturday performances beginning at 7:30 p.m. (except Sat., June 30, begins at 4 p.m. to avoid a conflict with the fireworks that night), and Sunday matinees beginning at 4 p.m.

When the playwright is Paul Rudnick, expectations are geared for a play both hilarious and smart, and The New Century is no exception. It’s a provocative, outrageous comedy, featuring a collection of vivid and hilarious characters. This is a two-act play, with Act I consisting of three lengthy monologues and Act II bringing all of the characters together for the first time. Very original!

Characters:

Helene Nadler - 50's. A stylish, Long Island matron, the self-proclaimed "most loving mother of all time" to her three gay children.

Mr. Charles - 50's. A glorious, flamboyant, aging homosexual hounded out of New York by younger gay men who find his style threatening. He is the host of his own local cable show in Palm Beach.

Barbara Ellen Diggs - 50's. A perky Midwestern crafts person and competitive cake decorator who has lost her son to AIDS.

David Nadler/ Shane - 20's. David is into leather. Shane is a dim, affable, low-rent boy who is Mr. Charles’s assistant. This is a dual role with several quick costume changes.

Joann - 20's. A studio receptionist w/ a newborn baby. Sweet, shy and apologetic.

Announcer - Male. (voiceover role)

We’ll be doing cold readings from the script.
