Reporting to and under the general supervision of the Center for Performing Arts (CPA) Production Manager and with additional lead work direction from the Technical Director and Technical Production Coordinator, the CPA Technician I will provide stage, set, and lighting production support to both University and off-campus performing arts venues.

Most work is performed independently from written specifications or instructions with limited technical direction, except for more complex aspects of work.

Major duties of the position include, but are not limited to, the following: construct and paint scenery and props; work on stage maintenance and cleaning; operate the stage counterweight system; hang, rig, circuit, focus, color, and operate stage lighting instruments and systems; set up and operate sound reinforcement, playback, and recording equipment; and set up and operate projection equipment. At the time of production, the incumbent will unlock facilities; set up lighting, sound, and projection equipment; operate stage equipment as necessary for the scheduled event; and close down and secure building at end of event. In addition, the CPA Technician I will be responsible for cleaning and maintaining stage and shop areas as directed and training and working with less experienced staff and students.
