Program Director with USDAC (remote)
PROGRAM DIRECTOR (EVENTUALLY, CHOOSE YOUR OWN CREATIVE TITLE)

The USDAC is hiring our first Program Director. We are seeking candidates with extensive experience in organizing, network-building, and project management, a demonstrated commitment to social justice, and deep familiarity and expertise in the fields of cultural organizing and community-based arts. The Program Director will join our core team and play a critical role in expanding the USDAC’s national organizing efforts and capacity.
This is a new position in an evolving project that is rolling out new initiatives and refining existing ones. Responsibilities may not require full time at the outset. A candidate with core strengths plus additional skills in strategic communications and/or development will be a plus, as responsibilities in either of those areas could be part of the role until organizing and program implementation require full time. We are open to adapting the role to the best candidate, with the possibility of beginning part-time and ramping up to full-time.
Providing strategic and technical assistance to local organizers and connecting efforts across the country
Building and supporting a network of Affiliate organizations
Recruiting and managing volunteers to build organizational capacity
Developing and implementing initiatives that activate the potential of the network, connecting Citizen Artists across the U.S. to each other and to USDAC actions and resources
Developing and managing campaigns and national actions
Planning and supporting regional and national convenings
Contributing to fundraising and development efforts Representing the USDAC in public events and gatherings
Offering skill-building workshops
For a candidate with communications skills, the role could include producing newsletters, social media, website coordination, and associated promotional and communication activities.
Candidates must have at least five years of relevant professional experience with relationship-based organizing, leadership development, project/campaign management, and building volunteer teams. Demonstrated content expertise in the fields of cultural organizing and community-based arts is required. The ideal candidate is passionate about community organizing and movement-building and has a track record of managing programs that develop volunteer capacity to meet metrics-based goals as well as the ability to work effectively with many types of people and communities. Must be a self-starter, with excellent time-management and prioritization skills. Must be able to hold many relationships and should have a track recording of supporting and activating individuals, groups, and networks alike. We’re looking for someone who is comfortable learning and using new tech platforms and with working remotely. There is some flexibility in the scope of the position, depending on qualifications and preferences of the best candidate. Compensation to be negotiated accordingly.
The USDAC has evolved from an all-volunteer project to one also supported by contracted services. With the addition of this post we are moving toward staffing. We seek candidates who understand the challenges of moving from startup to stable, and whose commitment to cultural democracy and creative change will help attract resources for enhanced compensation.
Location: Our team is spread across the country and works remotely. We are open to candidates based anywhere. Must be willing to travel for work engagements.
