“Call For Artists” For the Trashion Fashion Show

The 9th Annual Trashion Fashion Runway Show is scheduled to take place April 6, 2019 at the Sonoma Veterans Memorial Hall.  And the Sonoma Community Center has begun to accept applications from anyone wanting to participate in the runway show where models showcase wearable art made out of recycled materials and cast off junk.  Prizes will be awarded under a variety of categories and any individual, family, school, group, club, or business can enter.  The only rules are that outfits must be made from materials that have been previously used, found at thrift stores, or rescued from the trash.  The whole idea is to bring awareness to the amount of materials we throw away and waste by creatively recycling and reusing them.

Applications can be found at TrashionFashionSonoma.org.  The deadline to apply is March 1st, 2019 and the fee to register is $45 per garment and $20 per garment for juniors’ ages 9-17.  Now is the time to go through your recycle bins and start dreaming

Kids ages 9-17 will have the opportunity to enroll in the upcoming Trashion Fashion Design Class beginning March 2 where students will be given guidance on how to construct their garment made from unconventional materials from beginning to end.  Enrollment in the class will also include the students’ registration fee for the Trashion Runway Show.

Artists interested in working with recycled materials in smaller ways will also have the option to take a class and/or enter the “Dogs on the Catwalk” Trashion Fashion contest for dogs.   Additionally, Barbie dolls will be available for anyone to use as a blank canvas for their artistic expression and shown in the upcoming art exhibit  “Barbie: Reclaimed & Reinvented.”
