VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY: Public Art Project in Santa Rosa

Volunteers Needed for City of Santa Rosa Public Artwork “Living Quilt for Santa Rosa

I am sending out this call for volunteers to all the artists I know in the Santa Rosa area.  I need some help to create a public art project to commemorate the October 2017 wildfires in Santa Rosa.  I would especially appreciate some help from those with experience working outdoors, on eco-art projects and doing fiber arts such as basketry.  Please give me a call on my cell phone at 857-234-2432 if you or anyone you know wants to volunteer on Nov. 17, 18, 19 or 20 at Rincon Ridge Park in Santa Rosa.  My phone is 857-234-2432.  My Blog has more information about this project at https://janeingramallen.wordpress.com

Volunteers are needed to help Santa Rosa artist Jane Ingram Allen create a public artwork that will bring new life to the Fountaingrove area devastated by the October 2017 wildfires.  “Living Quilt for Santa Rosa” will be at Rincon Ridge Park, off Fountaingrove Parkway at Rincon Ridge Drive, Santa Rosa.  The artwork consists of a handmade paper quilt in the traditional “flying geese” pattern with seeds for wildflowers in the pulp that will transform over time into a living blooming bed of wildflowers. 

A public community workshop at Rincon Ridge Park will be held on Saturday, November 17, 11AM to 5PM, to begin constructing a raised “flower bed” and weave a headboard and footboard of trimmed local branches.   Volunteers can also join the artist to work on the project at Rincon Ridge Park on Nov. 18-20., 11 AM to 4PM each day.    

Many trimmed tree branches are needed to make the headboard and footboard.  Branches should be about ½” to 1” in diameter and about 5- 10 feet long.  Willow or any kind of flexible branches are fine.
