The three-part Calibrate Your Compass Series is about giving artists tools they can use to plot their careers: successful artists understand their practice emotionally, financially and strategically. By investigating your values, priorities, and income, participants will learn how to define and achieve goals steadily over time. Participants will identify their core values and learn how to use them to make decisions that sustain their whole self. An artist’s’ job is to monetize anything and everything in their wheelhouse to sustain their full practice (from intellectual property and thought leadership, to the rare technical skills and/or equipment acquired). Through individual and small group work, thoughtful exercises, and an intersectional lens, this workshop will build community and give you the tools for greater accountability.

Week 2: Find Your Reason for Being: clarify your goals, scope, and scale
Week 3: Establish Your 2-Year Plan: good goals versus unrealistic goals

Beatrice Thomas is a grants consultant, multi-disciplinary artist, and performer. She has worked in administrative, curatorial, creative and educational roles for municipal agencies, community colleges, galleries and non-profits. Ms. Thomas leads workshops and facilitates dialogues on grant strategy, queer arts, and cultural equity. She has served as Program Officer for San Francisco's Cultural Equity Grants program, Program Manager for First Night Austin, an interdisciplinary, urban, arts festival, and Chair of the Austin Art and Public Places Panel. She is dedicated to integrating exceptional art from queer communities and queer communities of color into meaningful public experience. Ms. Thomas received a BA from Hampshire College and a MFA from the University of Texas.
