Status:  Part time / contract - 10 – 15 hours a week - afternoons, $50/hour

Valley Vibes Orchestra (ViVO) is a mission-driven organization committed to help youth thrive and change their lives through music. A program of the Sonoma Valley Education Foundation, ViVO is a youth music enrichment program based in Sonoma, CA. Through learning and making music together, we inspire our members to believe that everyone has the power to change their life and succeed. Open to all school-aged children and youth, we strive to build a thriving and vibrant community dedicated to closing the opportunity gap and making a positive impact on Sonoma Valley children and youth.

 

JOB SUMMARY:

We are looking for strings, brass & beginner youth orchestra music teachers who are passionate about working with children and interested in taking our program to the next level. You will be responsible for planning, leading and implementing engaging and creative music experiences every day after school.  As an ideal candidate, you are an upbeat, collaborative and proactive thinker, intrinsically motivated to exceed expectations and contribute to our collective goal of having a positive impact on the youth we serve. Above all, you are passionate about working with children and about making a lasting positive change for our members.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience working with children in music programs and/or educational settings
  • Music education – Bachelor degree or equivalent experience
  • Collaborative, engaging and effective teacher, passionate about working with children and making a difference in their lives
  • Understanding of classical music forms &music theory; fluency in notation reading and applied clefs as well a basic understanding of classical repertoire
  • Ability to work well with supervisors, peers, staff and the community
  • Knowledge of child and youth development characteristics, learning styles and appropriate approaches
  • Experience in how to engage and motivate children from various age groups and backgrounds
  • Ability to advocate for the music program to internal and external audiences
  • Ability to play an instrument at a professional level
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish is a plus

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Be available to work in the program for up to 5 school days per week
  • Teach students musicianship and or specialty music classes
  • Provide music instruction for string instruments
  • Supervise students while in program and during program break
  • Plan lessons according to ViVO curriculum
  • Communicate regularly with the parents of students in the program
  • Meet and confer, as needed, with site principal and/or program director regarding any program related issues / topics
  • Assist program director in evaluating student progress
  • Participate in PD workshops, attend instructor meetings and participate in program concerts and events
  • Perform other tasks as assigned by the ViVO program director and/or site principal
  • Maintain positive interactions with members, families and community members
  • Other duties as assigned
