CALL TO SCULPTORS: Request for Proposals for Public Art
The Haven at Deer Creek apartment community in Petaluma (“The Haven”) is issuing this request for proposal (“RFP”) to Petaluma and surrounding Sonoma County artists for the design, fabrication, and installation of an original durable and low-maintenance outdoor public artwork suitable for placement at Deer Creek in Petaluma (see Exhibit A in Full Details PDF for location).
The Deer Creek Overlook / Art Walk is located along Deer Creek, between the East and West Crossings at the Deer Creek Shopping Center. There are 3 pedestals (see gallery image below for example of pedestal) and one concrete pad along the 8’ wide walkway that will need to be brought to life by one artist or a team of artists.
RFP Submission is due November 30th, 2023.
The Haven will screen submitted proposals along with the City of Petaluma. The awarded budget is all-inclusive up to $10,000 per 3D Outdoor Art Sculpture. An all-inclusive award of up to $10,000 per outdoor sculpture will include, but not be limited to, the artist fees, design fees, travel expenses, consultants’ and subcontractors’ fees, insurance, engineering, permits, site-preparation, materials, fabrication, shipping and transportation, installation (including any site modification beyond The Haven or City responsibility), artwork plaque, and post-installation documentation. The artwork and all rights to it shall be owned by The Haven, other than the rights accorded the artist by the Federal Visual Artists’ Rights Act and the California Art Preservation Act.
Time frame for project completion and installation is anticipated to occur in April/May 2024 (up to 4 pieces).
3D Outdoor Art Sculptures submissions can show previous existing artwork for this opportunity or submissions can show new concepts.
Eligibility: You must be a practicing professional artist in Sonoma County and over the age of 18. Previous experience in public art is desired but not required. The artist or artist team who will be awarded the contract will be required to comply with The Haven’s insurance and liability requirements, in addition to other selection requirements outlined in this RFP. The Haven is not obligated to select a finalist from the submitted RFPs. Submitting an application to this RFP does not constitute an expressed or implied contract.
