Status:  Part time / contract 10 – 15 hours a week - afternoons, $30+/hour

JOB SUMMARY:

We are looking for a creative and innovative Pre-Orchestra music teacher who is passionate about working with children and interested in taking our K-2 program to the next level. In collaboration with the Program and Music Directors, you will implement engaging and creative Rhythm & Songs curriculum for students in Kindergarten through second grade.

You will be responsible for planning, leading and implementing engaging and creative music experiences every day after school.  As an ideal candidate, you are an upbeat, collaborative and proactive thinker, intrinsically motivated to exceed expectations and contribute to our collective goal of having a positive impact on the youth we serve. Above all, you are passionate about working with children and about innovative child-centered music activities that capitalize on the unique developmental characteristics of children in K – 2.

 QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience working with children in music programs and/or educational settings
  • Music education or equivalent experience
  • Background in early childhood education
  • Collaborative, creative thinker passionate about working with children and making a difference in their lives
  • Ability to work well with supervisors, peers, staff and the community
  • Knowledge of child and youth development characteristics, learning styles and appropriate approaches
  • Experience in how to engage and motivate children from various age groups and backgrounds
  • Ability to play an instrument
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish is a plus

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Design lessons and implement all aspects of the K-2 Rhythm & Songs curriculum
  • Collaborate with the teaching team on alignment of Pre-Orchestra with Orchestra programs
  • Develop and coordinate all activities for the Pre-Orchestra
  • Maintain and care of supplies and equipment
  • Help to manage volunteers and parents within the Pre-Orchestra Program
  • Support, plan and participate in performances and field trips for both Pre-Orchestra and Orchestra programs
  • Develop and maintain relationships and collaborations with partners that can provide advice, direction and support to the program
  • Collect and maintain portfolios and records about program implementation and impact
  • Perform special assignments and assist with special projects as directed by the Program Director & Artistic Director
  • Maintain positive interactions with members, families and community members
  • Other duties as assigned
