The First Symphony Project
Matt Browne is the first of four rising-star composers commissioned by the Santa Rosa Symphony (SRS) in collaboration with Eugene Symphony to write their first full scale symphonic work. This is a signature project of music director Francesco Lecce-Chong’s, and it means we’ll have visiting composers in the community for several years.
About the First Symphony Project: https://www.srsymphony.org/About/First-Symphony-Project. You can see Matt’s bio and artist statement there, as well. The SRS will perform Matt’s How the Solar System was Won on Sat-Mon, Oct 5-7, and will then premiere his new commissioned symphony in February. Matt Browne’s new work for SRS will be inspired by The Course of Empire, a series of paintings by Thomas Cole: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Course_of_Empire_(paintings).
