Sonoma Valley Museum of Art seeks a qualified on-call Preparator to assist with the preparation and installation of exhibitions.

The position will report to the Exhibitions Manager, Guest Curators, and/or Executive Director. It is a contract, on-call position that will last the duration of August – December 2017, with the availability to continue into the 2018 exhibition season.

Responsibilities:

The On-Call Preparator works under the supervision of SVMA Exhibitions Manager, Guest Curators, and the Executive Director on the installation and deinstallation of exhibitions on an as-needed basis. This position is responsible for the safe handling and installation of artwork, construction/preparation of exhibition furniture, painting and maintenance of gallery walls, audio/video equipment set-up, and other duties as directed by Museum staff. The candidate must be familiar with a variety of artworks including heavy sculptures, paintings, photography, ephemera, etc. The work schedule ranges from 5 to 15 days per exhibition (approximately 40 to 120 work hours) which may occur three to four times per year. Occasional weekend and/or evening hours may be required.
