Seeking Director and Play Proposals for 4th Annual Free Shakespeare by The River in Petaluma
The Petaluma Shakespeare Company is seeking Director and Play proposals for this upcoming season of Free Shakespeare by the River.
PSC is a non profit theater providing a platform for local directors, performers and designers to collaborate on a production. We believe in fostering the next generation of theater artists while providing theater as a public good. Free Shakespeare by the River is free to the public. We provide a stage, lights, sound and a modest budget for each production.
Our 4th Season of Free Shakespeare by the River is taking on the form of a Festival this year by offering a variety of plays during it’s run. At this time we are open to any Shakespearean, Shakespearean themed or classical play. We encourage an abridged version with a small diverse cast but are willing to discuss a full length play and large cast. Please submit proposals to:

In your submissions to Petaluma Shakespeare Company please submit the following:
1. A resume of your directorial and theatrical experience
2. A proposal that features:
-Reason for choosing play
-Themes you believe important or relevant in the play
-Ideas on production elements; i.e. set, costumes, lighting, sound or other special effects
Any other items, including how you might address any particular challenges you
see in staging the piece in our unique space under the open sky
Free Shakespeare by the River offers an intimate unique performance space. We recommend you visit the space at Foundry Wharf to help you visualize a production. If you are standing in the center of the green with the Petaluma River in front of you and your back towards the lined trees, you will be facing the stage straight on. The River is the backdrop of the performance space. There is no backstage or wings. We perform in the park like venue under the stars. Minimum space to store props, costumes and set pieces is provided. Tents are used for dressing rooms but we do have access to bathrooms. We do not charge for admission.
