Mission Statement

Mission Statement/Purpose:

Bringing the world together through music, dance, art and cultural exchange. Our purpose is to provide musical instruments of the world to the public, and to promote all teachers, students, artists, enthusiasts and performers regardless of age, ability, gender, race, ethnicity, religious or sexual orientation.

Core Programs and Services:

The Musical Instrument Library has two core services: Lending of musical instruments and providing a venue for musicians, dancers, artists, and children to study, cultivate, teach, and perform.

Racial Equity Statement:

The Musical Instrument Library strives to represent the world through music, art, and dance. We provide a safe space where everyone has access to musical instruments, education, dance, and art- especially to those who would usually not have the opportunity. It is our goal to appreciate and hold sacred the rich, musical cultures of the world, highlighting and uplifting artists from the cultures and places of origin and providing them with a platform, stage, classroom, instruments and other resources with which to cultivate and share their art. The Musical Instrument Library provides free and sliding scale services in order to make these things more accessible to those who are faced with bias, oppression, institutionalized racism, and economic hardship. By providing a platform for this education, we can combat ignorance and promote understanding and respect for all human beings.

Back in 1978, on Christmas Eve, a group of musically-minded souls from the hills surrounding Occidental, California gathered around a campfire in the center of town to sing carols. We didn’t want to go home, so we started a choir.

Through the decades the choir has solidified its reputation for excellence by producing unique concert experiences that combine humor, storytelling, poetry, varied instrumental accompaniment, and an off-the-beaten-path repertoire.

Keeping Music in the Schools

Our goal is simple: “keeping music in the schools”.  The Petaluma Music Festival Board of Directors believe passionately in the positive influence of music in children’s lives.  Proceeds from this annual event will be distributed among Petaluma’s public elementary and secondary schools to provide funding for their music programs. Funding for the arts is problematic in California, as there is never enough funding for all our school’s needs. With your attendance, you are making a difference, and we applaud you!

In 2018, the Petaluma Music Festival donated over $60,000 to the music programs in all Petaluma area public schools, and in the last 11 years, we have donated over $325,000!

During COVID distance learning we are offering remote instruction for students at multiple sites throughout the state. We are full for the fall semester but are currently accepting applicants for a January 2021 program start date.

We are a group of individuals just like you – community-minded individuals with an interest in preserving performing arts.

With funding for arts disappearing in our schools, the responsibility for supporting the arts lies firmly with us. When we banded together to save the historic Raven Theater in downtown Healdsburg California, we had big dreams of enhancing the lives of every community member by offering a conveniently located, eclectic array of entertainment.

The mission of the Raven Performing Arts Theater is to provide an inviting venue for performing arts and a vibrant center for community, educational, and public service activities.

Specifically,

• To provide a long-term home for community performance groups including schools, churches, clubs, and public and private organizations.
• To offer programming that encompasses a variety of professional performances including dance, acting, music, and festivals.
• To provide a learning environment for children and adults, as individuals and in groups, to learn many aspects of theater operation, production, and presentation.

GETTING TO THE HEART OF THE MUSIC!

Rocking Causes is a musician-focused crowdfunding platform that connects artists and their fans to the charities and causes making a difference in the world.

Using a popular crowdfunding platform, artists are able to create a campaign page in support of a cause they’re passionate about. Fans are incentivized to participate and give to the campaign through exclusive experiences and merchandise, VIP tickets, bonus tracks, and more.

By harnessing the power of collective action, Rocking Causes helps introduce the idea of grassroots philanthropy to a whole new generation of young people, and connects charities and causes with an engaged network of supporters.
