Sonoma County is home to more than 200 non-profit arts organizations along with 100s of other creative enterprises who work every day to enrich our lives with exhibits, performances, readings, happenings.  Sometimes, they are caretakers of our collective cultural identity.  Sometimes they are tour guides, leading us on an exploration into uncharted emotional waters.  And always, they are the critical threads that tie together the fabric of our creative community.  Browse this ever-growing gathering of our creative eco-system for ideas and opportunities.

Cazadero Music Camp
Cazadero Music Camp Creative Sonoma Grantee, Education, Holidays Shop Local, Kids/Family, Music, Nonprofit, Sports/Outdoors, Youth Arts Education Cazadero Music Camp brings the love of music and learning to youth. We provide a nurturing, inspirational environment for young musicians ages 9-18. For more than 65 years, Cazadero has offered a dynamic music education program that strikes a thoughtful balance between in-depth music education and carefree summer camp fun. Caz is set on 33 acres near the Russian River in Sonoma County where young musicians learn together under a canopy of spectacular redwood trees. Our vision is to bring the transformative Caz experience to as many youth as possible. Combining music and nature in a truly unique setting, young musicians develop a love of music which lasts a lifetime. Our impact is evident in the inspired performances that close each session and the heartfelt evaluations of the young musicians themselves. Our Programs

Cazadero inspires over 1,400 youth during a typical year through two complementary music programs, Summer Music Camp, and JumpStart in Music. Our Summer Music Camp brings together a diverse and talented student body from across the Bay Area and beyond. Campers work closely with skilled Conductors, talented Music Faculty, and a devoted Camp Staff. They discover their love of music, develop their musicianship, gain confidence in their playing, and make lasting friendships. Learn more. JumpStart in Music is a low-cost, high-impact weekend version of our Summer Music Camp for school and school district music programs. JumpStart brings Sonoma County and Bay Area public school students, their music teachers and high school mentors together for a three day, condensed immersion program which produces some remarkable results.

After graduation, chose to live in Bozeman, Montana (close to Yellowstone National Park and the Big Sky Ski Resort) 5 years, attending Montana State University, earning degrees. Following graduation, I lived in Terra Linda (Marin County) for 6 years, continuing Multimedia studies, working. I lived in Santa Rosa, of Sonoma County, the "Heart of the Wine Country" for ten years, working and attending a quality college for additional post-graduate studies. After obtaining a Bachelor's Degree in Business (Marketing Option) along with a Minor in Communication from MSU, I broadened my education studying visual media (Computer Art, Applied Graphics, Desktop Publishing, Art, Multimedia, and web design) at Santa Rosa Junior College and College of Marin, while working. I have expanded my knowledge of various programs that are applicable to corporate establishments and gained additional skill and knowledge of Multimedia and HTML, in pursuit of an occupation that relates to promotion, advertising or marketing. My skills lie toward doing business in establishments that relate to visual media. Proficient with marketing and the composition of computer graphics on different platforms, we have ability to relate thoughts to a context to influence customers.

Award-winning photographer Scott Gibson creates the images for Gibson Outdoor Photography from his picturesque base in Northern California’s Wine Country. From there, he travels the region, the western United States, and the world to capture images to educate, entertain, and inspire viewers. A serious hobby photographer for decades, Scott has spent recent years carefully refining his craft. His artistic eye helps him see and feel what others miss and his deep technical training helps him capture and share these experiences in his photographs. Scott’s search for the next great image often provides opportunity for adventure. He is particularly proud of the acclaim for his images from an ascent of 14,505 foot Mount Whitney in California’s Sierra Nevada mountains – camera in hand the entire 22 miles. Willing to go ‘all in’ to get the shot, Scott camped for days in the Oregon wilderness to capture the August 2017 total solar eclipse. His FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot certificate supports capturing fresh aerial points of view. His award-winning images are featured in private collections, winery publications, popular photo products, and stock photo services.

As a cornerstone of Sonoma State University’s commitment to the arts, the Green Music Center is a place to witness artistic inspiration through year-round programming, serving as home to the Sonoma State University Music Department, the Santa Rosa Symphony, and Sonoma Bach. The mission of the Green Music Center is to present the most compelling artists of our time, to investigate ideas, and to provide access to diverse artistic experiences that educate, connect, and inspire Sonoma State University and neighboring North Bay communities. Built to bring together artists, students, families, music-lovers, and more, the Green Music Center at Sonoma State University is a gathering place for our diverse communities in Sonoma County to explore and enjoy the things that move and inspire us. The center includes the 1,400-seat Weill Hall, with a rear wall that opens to lawn seating for a unique summertime experience, and the intimate 240-seat Schroeder Hall.

Combining the arts with movement and meditation has the profound ability to build a community of resilience, authenticity, and compassion. Pepperwood
Pepperwood Education, Environmental, Kids/Family, Nonprofit, Sports/Outdoors Pepperwood is a non-profit organization, and our mission is to inspire conservation through science. Located in the heart of Sonoma County— a globally recognized biodiversity hotspot— Pepperwood manages a 3,200-acre biological preserve and the Dwight Center for Conservation Science. An important refuge for more than 900 species of native plants and wildlife, the preserve serves as a living laboratory hosting researchers from around the world. The Dwight Center has become a hub for ecological education and a conservation think tank. For more than a decade Pepperwood has worked to connect children, youth, and adults with nature. The purpose of the Inspiring Connections with Nature Initiative is to connect people to nature and inspire a lifelong conservation ethic through exploration, observation, science, and artistic expression. It will build upon current programming that includes our Students Conducting Environmental Inquiry (SCENIQ) program for elementary school children, TeenNat for youth ages 8-18, summer youth institutes, family-oriented outdoor experiences, and a host of community education classes and retreats. New and expanded activities through 2025 will include: partnerships with visual arts organizations to host art installations and gallery shows at Pepperwood; a new performing arts series on the preserve; new opportunities for filmmakers, photographers, and other visual artists to engage with the land; new outreach to local Latinx audiences; and potential partnerships with digital media experts to virtually amplify our programming. This timely initiative will encourage children, youth, and adults of diverse backgrounds to actively engage with the outdoors, learn about the natural world, and be inspired to protect nature and live sustainably.

After nearly two years of exploring – during which he experienced, saw, and tasted much of what the world had to offer – Vegar discovered the irrepressible desire in him to photograph. For Vegar photography developed beyond an avocation, into both a profession and a lifelong passion. Vegar strongly believes in creating a collaborative environment on his shoots and is known in the industry for the subtle, yet effective ways in which he directs his talent and crew. His ability to capture spontaneous and authentic moments – without sacrificing technical or aesthetic perfection – is a testament not only to Vegar’s professionalism but also to that of his team. His personable approach makes for a fun and relaxed atmosphere, regardless of the size and complexity of a production.
