River Arts Arts Council/Alliance, Association/Club/Group/Guild, Corporation, Creative Sonoma Grantee, Dance, Education, Festivals/Markets, Film/Video, Fine Crafts, Kids/Family, Media, Music, Nonprofit, Nonprofit Services, Performing Arts, Special Events, Theatre, Visual Arts River Arts A Project to Advance a Vibrant Arts Community and Arts Center in the Lower Russian River Region The idea of having a dynamic and active arts organization in Guerneville, with the further goal of having an Arts and Community Center, has been a long-sought wish of many in the community. While Guerneville has, in the last decade or so, begun to establish itself at an arts-oriented town, with about a dozen galleries, a theater group, a community choir and numerous other creative activities, no organization has emerged to proactively support, encourage and champion the arts; nor is there an arts center, which nearly every other town in Sonoma County has. In March of 2021 a group of artists and others came together to form the nucleus of River Arts. In coordination with County Supervisor Lynda Hopkins the establishment of an actual Arts and Community Center is within reach. In order to launch this organization, activate the community and build support for such a center, River Arts is proceeding to enact an ambitious pilot agenda of events and programs for 2022. The major programs planned are: 1. Saturday Stroll Artwalk: We have revived and are coordinating the First Friday Artwalk (suspended during COVID) and moved it to the first Saturday of each month at the behest of the galleries. We plan to expand it this year with music, street vendors, food, and more. 2. Murals Project: We wish to put Guerneville on the map as a murals and public art destination. We have identified over 30 possible mural locations. We hope to create 5-6 murals during 2022 and a similar number each year thereafter for a number of years. We intend to invite public participation in some of the murals, including ones that will be done all or primarily by children. Even after the first set of murals are complete, we see this project extending into the future as a public art project, with continuous creation of public art throughout Guerneville. 3. Summer Art Festival: We are planning a Summer Arts Festival in September. The Festival will be centered around the iconic "old bridge" in the center of town, which is now a walking bridge over the Russian River, and will spill out into the town plaza on the north side of the bridge and the small park on the south side of the bridge. 4. Winter Crafts Fair: We are planning for a Winter Crafts Fair in December 2022. 5. Music in the Galleries: We are planning to have an occasional series of music events in certain galleries during 2022. We are seeking unusual or unique music that would be suitable for a gallery space. Our first event is an appearance by "4 Shillings Short" (https://4shillingsshort.com/home) at the Oli Gallery on April 5. 6. Art Auction: We have teamed with Forgotten Felines for an online Art Auction in Spring 2022. 7. CalTrans Coordination: River Arts is working to interact with CalTrans to beautify Guerneville and bring an aesthetic sense to the town that will be attractive to residents and visitors alike. 8. Arts District: River Arts is intending to apply for Cultural (Arts) district status with the state of California once the program re-opens for applications. The overriding goal of all of these programs is to knit together a stronger sense of community identity and kinship through the creative works and participation of all members of the community. Each of these is a pilot project. We will start off small, but our goal is that, over time, these will grow and develop into significant programs that will put the lower Russian River on the map as an arts destination.

Roustabout Theater Creative Sonoma Grantee, Dance, Education, Music, Nonprofit, Performing Arts, Theatre, Youth Arts Education Roustabout Theater is the longest-running Resident Theater company of the Luther Burbank Center for the Arts in Sonoma County. Their award-winning Apprentice Program is one of the leading theatrical training and performance programs for dedicated young actors in the San Francisco Bay Area. Roustabout Theater’s mission is creating vibrant professional theater focused on bringing to life less-frequently-produced plays. Roustabout’s Apprentice Program is an unparalleled actor training program in Sonoma County highlighting the talents of the county’s most extraordinary student performers through its professionally produced productions. Roustabout also provides unique opportunities for our students through our ongoing series of Master Classes with Tony Award-winners, award-winning Broadway actors and nationally recognized Casting Directors. In addition, our Conservatory Classes provide ongoing training in acting, vocal performance, diction, dialect, movement, dance, improv and stage combat.

Santa Rosa Players DBA 6th Street Playhouse Adult Arts Education, Creative Sonoma Grantee, Education, Kids/Family, Nonprofit, Performing Arts, Performing Arts Membership or Season Tickets, School, Theatre, Youth Arts Education The Santa Rosa Players DBA 6th Street Playhouse has a long history with Santa Rosa and has for over fifty years provides live theatrical entertainment for the surrounding community. The Playhouse is a venue consisting of two theaters. The GK Hardt Stage is a 184 seat theater that caters to Broadway style musicals and plays. The Monroe Stage is a more intimate Black Box three sided theater of 99 seats that features smaller comedies and dramas and is one of the most exciting venues to see a performance. The Mainstage and Black Box performances are presented throughout the year and total over 170 in one season. The 6th Street Playhouse also offers classes to adults, teens and youth interested in following the creative arts and developing theatrical skills. Over 300 students learn stage presence, song, dance, and stagecraft that includes technical sound, lighting, set design, and costume making. All students are given an opportunity to perform on either of our two public stages during a season's consisting seven student productions.

Just as the Theatre itself shines as one of the most memorable features of the Plaza, it also occupies a place in the hearts of many Sonomans. Over the past 25 years thousands of young people have performed in Witchie Poo Halloween shows, holiday shows, and Performing Arts Camps. Families cherish Roger and Diana Rhoten’s passion for the performing arts as a generator of leadership, self-confidence and creativity in their children. And going to a movie or a live performance at the Sebastiani is one of the defining experiences of life in our town. Films The Theatre has always brought the finest in film entertainment to Sonoma. With more screening areas we can do even more, bringing film series that will appeal to a variety of special interests -- films from other countries, cult classics as well as the standards, films that are “vintage” to the younger generation (Karate Kid or ET, anyone?) innovative food and film pairings, and even mini film festivals. Special Events The Sebastiani hosts many wonderful live performers, and with a new green room and an updated stage area, we can attract a great many more. Classical concerts, dance troupes, magic and cabaret, great names in literature, the arts, and politics—all will be able to bring their talents to enrich the artistic and intellectual life of Sonoma. Children’s Programs Nurturing the creativity, self-confidence, and talent of the next generation has always been the heart-felt mission of the Theatre. The Performing Arts Camp in the summer, Witchie Poo in the fall, and the holiday show in December are part of what mark the seasons in Sonoma. Generations of young people come back home to sing along with Witchie Poo; many of Sonoma’s young people have gone on to successful careers in the performing arts, and Roger and Diana Rhoten are trusted mentors to hundreds of young people who have found a second home at the Sebastiani.

Our Mission & Vision

Sonoma Conservatory of Dance's mission is to nurture the creative spirit of our community through dance. We at SCD envision a world filled with inspired and inspiring people, developing and using their talents for good.

Our Story:

Originally Founded as Sonoma Ballet Conservatory in 1970, Patty O’Reilly reenvisioned the studio as Sonoma Conservatory of Dance in 2005 after 12 years of directing the Vallejo Ballet Conservatory, which she had founded in 1993. Under the Artistic Direction of Ms. O’Reilly, SCD continues to offer the very highest quality classical ballet and dance instruction to youth and adults.

In 2016, Sonoma Conservatory of Dance transitioned into a public benefit corporation to better serve the community of Sonoma and to more effectively fulfill its mission of providing the youth (and adults) of Sonoma Valley and beyond an opportunity to grow artistically and technically through participation in our classes and productions.

As a nonprofit, we are able to serve as many students as possible regardless of financial circumstances. Our students grow as they train together under the mentorship of an excellent artistic staff who create an outstanding classroom environment as well as high-quality performances that we share with the public, thereby enhancing each student’s sense of self-mastery.

We expose students and audiences to a mix of culture through music, and dance and our full-length productions offer a blend of classical ballet with other cultural themes. Through our performances, we provide the community with an opportunity to gather together and enjoy an inspiring, enchanting event.

The studio’s students have been accepted into the most prestigious dance programs both locally, nationally and internationally, including: American Ballet Theatre, Joffrey Ballet, Kaatsbaan Extreme Ballet, and Royal Ballet School of Antwerp.

Other Notable Programs Include:

Boston BalletLINES Ballet, Colorado Ballet, North Carolina Dance Theatre, Orlando Ballet, Ballet West, Nutmeg Conservatory of the Arts, The Gelsey Kirkland Academy of Dance, Marymount Manhattan College Dance Department, and The Royal Ballet School of London.

To date, SCD students have competed in the Genée International Ballet Competition, Youth America Grand Prix and the RAD Dance Challenge.

The Sonoma International Film Festival provides a welcoming, entertaining, and inspiring cinematic experience that supports and promotes independent films and celebrates the cultural diversity in the Sonoma Valley through the art of film.

We are dedicated to the financial support of the visual arts educational programs in Sonoma Valley schools and community outreach programs. Since its inception in 1997, the annual March film festival has celebrated the best in film, food, wine and fun; bringing positive economic impact to Sonoma and enriching cultural life throughout Sonoma Valley and beyond. Year-round activities include special screenings and events. The SIFF-conceived SVHS Media Arts Program, started in 2002, provides student filmmakers with the tools and resources to explore visual storytelling and has given more than $750,000 to the program to date.

The Department of Theatre Arts & Dance offers students a home where they can develop their potential and find their voices as artists through rigorous coursework, collaborative making and production of live performance.

Each of the Department’s four concentrations – Acting, Dance, Technical Theatre, and Theatre Studies – offers a broad base of study, drawing from diverse techniques and styles to provide a launchpad for students considering continuing fine arts graduate studies, a performing arts career, arts education, or other fields that value creative leadership, ingenuity, and collaborative problem-solving.
