Experiences like the ‘Tubbs Fire’ that hit Santa Rosa serve to strengthen the ‘artist within me’. It foements subjective creative moments that utilize my past, present – and my future as focal lenses.

Spontaneously, I chose The San Francisco Art Institute over The Rhode Island School of Design and the School of the Art Institute at Chicago for my formal Art education. I received my BFA in Interdisciplinary Art and Public Art. I’ve studied stone sculpture for 10 years with Master Sculpture-Ante’ Marinovic, one of Croatia’s premier stone sculptors and is considered a Croatian national treasure.

I explore the collaboration between artist, media and tool in such a fashion as to give rise to multiple layers of compressed info within each piece I create no matter if it is a purely visual work or an interactive space or environmental art form.

For me, art screams out into all aspects of my life. As an artist in western society, dogma and bravado go hand in hand with economic choice.

Art is my life. If it’s not nailed down or permanently affixed, it’s in trouble of becoming art resource material. Well, upon further review, even that won’t deter me from considering an objects use in an art piece.

River Arts Arts Council/Alliance, Association/Club/Group/Guild, Corporation, Creative Sonoma Grantee, Dance, Education, Festivals/Markets, Film/Video, Fine Crafts, Kids/Family, Media, Music, Nonprofit, Nonprofit Services, Performing Arts, Special Events, Theatre, Visual Arts River Arts A Project to Advance a Vibrant Arts Community and Arts Center in the Lower Russian River Region The idea of having a dynamic and active arts organization in Guerneville, with the further goal of having an Arts and Community Center, has been a long-sought wish of many in the community. While Guerneville has, in the last decade or so, begun to establish itself at an arts-oriented town, with about a dozen galleries, a theater group, a community choir and numerous other creative activities, no organization has emerged to proactively support, encourage and champion the arts; nor is there an arts center, which nearly every other town in Sonoma County has. In March of 2021 a group of artists and others came together to form the nucleus of River Arts. In coordination with County Supervisor Lynda Hopkins the establishment of an actual Arts and Community Center is within reach. In order to launch this organization, activate the community and build support for such a center, River Arts is proceeding to enact an ambitious pilot agenda of events and programs for 2022. The major programs planned are: 1. Saturday Stroll Artwalk: We have revived and are coordinating the First Friday Artwalk (suspended during COVID) and moved it to the first Saturday of each month at the behest of the galleries. We plan to expand it this year with music, street vendors, food, and more. 2. Murals Project: We wish to put Guerneville on the map as a murals and public art destination. We have identified over 30 possible mural locations. We hope to create 5-6 murals during 2022 and a similar number each year thereafter for a number of years. We intend to invite public participation in some of the murals, including ones that will be done all or primarily by children. Even after the first set of murals are complete, we see this project extending into the future as a public art project, with continuous creation of public art throughout Guerneville. 3. Summer Art Festival: We are planning a Summer Arts Festival in September. The Festival will be centered around the iconic "old bridge" in the center of town, which is now a walking bridge over the Russian River, and will spill out into the town plaza on the north side of the bridge and the small park on the south side of the bridge. 4. Winter Crafts Fair: We are planning for a Winter Crafts Fair in December 2022. 5. Music in the Galleries: We are planning to have an occasional series of music events in certain galleries during 2022. We are seeking unusual or unique music that would be suitable for a gallery space. Our first event is an appearance by "4 Shillings Short" (https://4shillingsshort.com/home) at the Oli Gallery on April 5. 6. Art Auction: We have teamed with Forgotten Felines for an online Art Auction in Spring 2022. 7. CalTrans Coordination: River Arts is working to interact with CalTrans to beautify Guerneville and bring an aesthetic sense to the town that will be attractive to residents and visitors alike. 8. Arts District: River Arts is intending to apply for Cultural (Arts) district status with the state of California once the program re-opens for applications. The overriding goal of all of these programs is to knit together a stronger sense of community identity and kinship through the creative works and participation of all members of the community. Each of these is a pilot project. We will start off small, but our goal is that, over time, these will grow and develop into significant programs that will put the lower Russian River on the map as an arts destination.

Riverfront Art Gallery Art Gallery, Business, Retail, Visual Arts Riverfront Art Gallery, located in historic downtown Petaluma, features dozens of local artists in a spacious gallery with museum-quality lighting. We've been voted "Best of the North Bay" for "Best Art Gallery in Sonoma County in 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013. We have also been voted "Petaluma's Peoples Choice" for "Best Art Gallery in Petaluma" in 2012, 2016 and 2017.

Rivertown Revival Creative Design, Education, Environmental, Festivals/Markets, History/Heritage, Kids/Family, Music, Nonprofit, Performing Arts, Special Events, Visual Arts Rivertown Revival is an art and music festival designed to celebrate the Petaluma Slough (aka river). It is a fund raiser for Friends of the Petaluma River (FOPR), but also an off-shoot of its mission and programing. FOPR believes that if we can facilitate a love affair between the Community and the river, the Community will want to conserve and protect it for generations to come. With the support of music director Josh Windmiller we feature local bands in the Americana style of music and beyond. We have had local sculpture artists line our paths, and have featured multiple kinetic sculpture artists with large scale, and often interactive work. Artists who have participated in past festivals include: David Best, Scott Collinson, Kevin Clark, and Stephen Lockert. This year, thanks to the Creative Responders Grant, we will have an interactive art piece by Stephen Lockert, and a collaborative piece between visual artist Mae Blackmore and music by The Crux. Programming at this festival includes multiple playful opportunities to create something out of nothing. For instance, in the past we have invited attendees to pound metal into flowers for an 80 foot Flower Tower that was being built for Burning Man. We have encouraged participants to use provided ‘ingredients’ to contribute to a giant boat alter. We have taught children, and adults, how to make rope, tie sailing knots, juggle, make boats out of wine corks, dye cloth naturally, make puppets out of socks and hula hoops out of irrigation tubing. We are an eco-friendly event that is modeled after turn of the century river festivals so we avoid all things plastic and mass produced. We decorate the event with found and recycled materials only and like to brag that we turn trash into cool junk! ;) We create an environment where we encourage participants to imagine a world without televisions, iPhones and store bought toys. In a nutshell, we encourage participants to listen to music, get on the water, play, use their hands and make art.

Santa Rosa Photographic Society Association/Club/Group/Guild, Visual Arts Santa Rosa Photographic Society has been advancing the skills of photographers through, education, competition, and field experience for 46 years. SRPS is an informal, friendly, and welcoming club, with members at all skill levels from beginners to advanced masters. The club provides its members many opportunities to improve their photographic skills, learn new “digital darkroom” and print techniques and to participate in activities including monthly field trips, educational programs and competitions on the local, regional, and national level. We have recently added regular in-person social events which have been very popular with our members. SRPS members include extremely accomplished photographers who regularly win top honors in local and regional competitions and participate in exhibitions throughout Sonoma County and beyond. Sara Downing is a Bay Area-based photographer, working in film and digital photography for over 25 years. Her images document a span of subjects, ranging from portraits to architecture to creative abstraction. Passionate about blending genres, she introduces a variety of mediums into her sculptural photographic work, including wool, paper, glass, ceramics, wood, metal, and polymers. Her photographs are included in numerous private art collections throughout the US. Sara is a former opera singer, event planner and product designer. With this commercial experience, she brings a diverse set of skills and interests to her work. Working for corporate and private clients across the US, she has been commissioned to produce site-specific installations. Her large-scale three-dimensional artwork blends architectural forms and human constructs with imagery. With an equal love for image-making and surprising audiences, her work proposes physically immersive ways to experience photography.

Sonoma Academy Gallery Guidelines

We look for original artwork that takes an innovative approach and shows a sophisticated execution. Chosen artists should enhance the arts curriculum. Established and emerging artists interested in showing are encouraged to look over the guidelines on our website. Shows are generally up for two months unless another arrangement has been made between the artist and the school. We provide a stipend of $120 for a lecture or class demo.

Artists are responsible for hanging and taking down their own shows.

The school takes no commission for any work sold.

Welcome to Sonoma County Art Trails, the premier juried open studio tour which is held annually during the second and third weekends each October! During Art Trails you can EXPLORE the scenic corridors and country roads; ENGAGE with the professional Art Trails artists in their studios; and COLLECT some wonderful art. Complimentary full color Collector’s Guide, including maps and artists’ information are available in Septament at Sebastopol Center for the Arts, galleries, cafes and shops throughout Sonoma County. Or on-line at www.SonomaCountyArtTrails.org Many Art Trails artists are open year-round by appointment so keeping your Collector’s Guide handy is always a good idea. Typically there are 140-150 artists who open their studios during Art Trails. Art mediums include: Painting, print-making, sculpture, ceramics, fiber arts, fine jewelry, art glass, mixed media, woodwork, mosaic and photography. Studios are located throughout Sonoma County from Petaluma to Geyserville and the town of Sonoma to Bodega Bay. Art Trails and the Jury Process Each participating artist has been juried into Art Trails. New artists apply by submitting an application, a description of their art medium and processes, images of their work, and one representative original piece of art work. A new jury is convened each year comprised of art experts and two rotating Art Trails members. While viewing the images, jurors are given information from the artist’s application on size, materials and techniques. After viewing the images and the original piece of art, jurors score each applicant on quality, creativity, coherent individual style, craftsmanship and professionalism of presentation. There are no quotas for acceptance imposed in any given medium or overall. The Art Trails Experience Each year 50,000 full color Collector’s Guides are printed and distributed to people who enjoy and appreciate art. During Art Trails blue Art Trails signs help guide visitors on their self-guided tour. Every year new people, from students, to out of town visitors, and local residents discover the rich and vibrant art culture Art Trails brings to Sonoma County. The Sonoma International Film Festival provides a welcoming, entertaining, and inspiring cinematic experience that supports and promotes independent films and celebrates the cultural diversity in the Sonoma Valley through the art of film.

We are dedicated to the financial support of the visual arts educational programs in Sonoma Valley schools and community outreach programs. Since its inception in 1997, the annual March film festival has celebrated the best in film, food, wine and fun; bringing positive economic impact to Sonoma and enriching cultural life throughout Sonoma Valley and beyond. Year-round activities include special screenings and events. The SIFF-conceived SVHS Media Arts Program, started in 2002, provides student filmmakers with the tools and resources to explore visual storytelling and has given more than $750,000 to the program to date.

SVMA serves the Sonoma Valley region and a wide range of visitors from, primarily, the Bay Area, but also from across the nation and the globe. Founded in 1998, SVMA is the region’s only modern and contemporary art museum providing arts and humanities interpretive programming and experiences. SVMA’s steady growth confirms the strong need and desire for its presence and service to the community and field. In addition to presenting art and culture from across the nation and, at times, from around the world, the Museum annually presents at least one exhibition with a broad depth and range of interpretive programming that highlights the distinct, influential, cultural and artistic heritage of California. With a modest seven full-time and two part-time staff, over 75 volunteers, and an engaged board of directors, SVMA produces model arts and humanities education along with highly respected exhibitions, inspiring cultural conversations that stimulate critical thinking and discussion surrounding contemporary issues of our day. Through its education efforts, SVMA provides free arts education for 4th- and 5th-graders in all Sonoma Valley schools (700-750 students) and averages hosting 75 public programs annually—a great feat for a small staff. SVMA’s library serves as an arts public reference source with a collection of over 2,500 art, architecture, and design books available to scholars and the public. SVMA also works with the Sonoma local government to spearhead activities that explore the art and heritage of the area, including the popular Sonoma Art Walk and public art exhibitions in Sonoma Plaza which, pre-COVID19, engage over 1,000 visitors a day in summer and fall months.
