6th Street Playhouse Creative Sonoma Grantee, Education, Holidays Shop Local, Performing Arts Membership or Season Tickets, Theatre, Youth Arts Education The Playhouse was created in 2004 by the merger of two of Sonoma County’s most prominent and oldest theatre companies, Santa Rosa Players and Actor’s Theatre. Together, with the help of G.K. Hardt and other community leaders and donors, the Playhouse renovated the 107-year-old Del Monte cannery in the Historic Railroad Square District. The $1.3 million dollar renovation resulted in a state-of-the-art theatre which opened to wide acclaim in 2005. It is the only theatre space designed by theatre artists for theatre in Sonoma County. In 2007, the Playhouse added the 99-seat Studio Theatre in another part of the same warehouse building. This theatre was especially designed for the production and development of new, cutting-edge plays. In 2010 additional classroom and rehearsal space was added. From the beginning, the Playhouse has provided a high quality School of Drama that provides a year-round program of affordable theatre classes and on-stage experiences for children, youth and adults. The Playhouse is unique in its willingness to include all levels of ability, from professional to community actors. Annually, the Playhouse reaches over 30,000 patrons, residents and visitors with over 200 performances (14 professional productions), 7 shows on the main stage, 7 shows in the Studio Theatre, a Holiday Cabaret series, 3 fundraising events, new play readings; winter, spring and fall School of Drama youth productions and adult classes; a summer theatre camp for children and youth, as well as numerous special events, cabarets, staged readings, workshops and presentations.

To achieve our mission, we create an environment that fosters the experimentation and exploration needed to produce high-quality performances, which can be enjoyed for their technique and artistry as well as for their connection to life and living. Additionally, we are committed to training young people in the performing arts so they can make lasting and meaningful connections between the arts and their daily lives. Located in a 1908 red schoolhouse on a grassy hill on the outskirts of Petaluma, Cinnabar Theater was founded in 1972 by opera singer Marvin Klebe and his wife, Jan. A former San Francisco Opera baritone, Klebe left big city life to create a small-scale performance space where creative people could collaborate and experiment. The Klebes and their four sons renovated the schoolhouse into what it is today: a performance space that provides North Bay residents and visitors a mix of plays, musicals, operas, and concerts. In 1983, we introduced our Young Repertory Theater (“Young Rep”) program. Created to counteract the ongoing decline of arts funding in public schools, Young Rep serves youth ages 4-18 from throughout Sonoma County. An ongoing program, Young Rep trains youth in the performing arts, specifically plays and musical theater. Through carefully crafted, age-appropriate curriculum, youth explore how their daily lives connect to the performing arts, and discover their own talents. Young Rep activities, which include summer camps and after-school programming, culminate into an average of five live performances, starring our Young Rep youth, annually. To ensure all youth who seek to explore the performing arts have the opportunity to participate, we offer scholarships for socioeconomically disadvantaged youth. Annually, 120 youth participate in Young Rep. In the 2016-17 season, we produced seven professional plays and musicals, two Young Rep performances, six concerts, and eight special performances, including puppetry and improvisational comedy. Over 6,000 individuals attended these performances, with 75% of our audience comprising Sonoma County residents.

Through theatre, music, dance, and storytelling, we aim to strengthen community ties, broaden the cultural horizons of the entire community, and help prepare people of all ages for careers in the performing arts. Our History: The Cloverdale Performing Arts Center, Inc., a non-profit organization, was originally formed in May 2007 to provide a vehicle for education in, production and development of the performing arts, included but not limited to drama, musical and related cultural productions and to encourage community participation in all aspects thereof. The establishment of a performance space was intended to aid in the ongoing improvement of rundown areas; bolster the economic future and vitality of not only our downtown through increased traffic, but also our hotels and restaurants; and to provide a forum for our community to gather to share in what we, the community, can create. The Cloverdale Grange was our first home. That building, located at 201 Commercial Street, was to have been remodeled into a professional theatre built with funds from the City of Cloverdale, but then the building formerly known as Clover Fitness Center located 209 North Cloverdale Blvd became available early in 2008. CPAC then entered into a contract with the City of Cloverdale to purchase and renovate that building. Cloverdale Performing Arts Center will continue to manage the use of the Grange Building as a performance space, theatre annex, office, classroom and workshop space.

As a cornerstone of Sonoma State University’s commitment to the arts, the Green Music Center is a place to witness artistic inspiration through year-round programming, serving as home to the Sonoma State University Music Department, the Santa Rosa Symphony, and Sonoma Bach. The mission of the Green Music Center is to present the most compelling artists of our time, to investigate ideas, and to provide access to diverse artistic experiences that educate, connect, and inspire Sonoma State University and neighboring North Bay communities. Built to bring together artists, students, families, music-lovers, and more, the Green Music Center at Sonoma State University is a gathering place for our diverse communities in Sonoma County to explore and enjoy the things that move and inspire us. The center includes the 1,400-seat Weill Hall, with a rear wall that opens to lawn seating for a unique summertime experience, and the intimate 240-seat Schroeder Hall.

People come to the summer Festival each year to hear world-class music and to experience Healdsburg and Sonoma County. The San Francisco Chronicle describes the Festival as, "one of the best small jazz festivals in the country if not the world."

In addition to the annual Festival, Healdsburg Jazz sponsors numerous free music education programs in Healdsburg area schools for primary and secondary school students, as well as for adults, and presents a series of Jazz Master concerts, discussions, and a variety of events throughout the year.

In 2019 Healdsburg Jazz hosted or co-hosted 120 jazz performances and music-related events, 75% of them completely free of charge, and it served about 2,000 children in our community. A real tour de force of Jazz, Education and Community. In 2020 the organization adapted to the limitations of the pandemic, with 85% of the events completely free, and around 4,000 attendees from all over the world joining in our virtual events. In 2021, Healdsburg Jazz continued monthly virtual programming, presented video concerts, created educational programs that celebrate events such as Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Maya Angelou, and Juneteenth, and will present a live Festival (outdoors, distanced, covid-compliant) June 17-20. This 2022 year, Healdsburg Jazz is offering two new fall events: Music for Sonoma Families and a Music & Performing Arts Camp, in addition to the Zoom events throughout the year, Freedom Jazz Choir, the Healdsburg Jazz All-Star ensemble, and the Juneteenth Education Celebration. We look forward to full in-person educational program offerings in 2023.

We select shows written within the past 6 years and never presented in Sonoma County before. They may have had successful runs in other major cities. Our audience is hungry for new, edgy, provocative and left leaning works. ABOUT THE STUDIO THEATRE The 2,500 square foot Studio Theatre is located at the Luther Burbank Center for the Arts and can be accessed from the South Parking Lot. It contains its own box office, lobby, tech booth, intimate 60 seat theatre, dressing rooms, scene and costume shop and classroom space. The new STUDIO THEATRE is the artistic home of Young Actors STUDIO and Left Edge THEATRE. Young Actors Studio provides training and performance opportunities to young people aged 6-18. Left Edge Theatre is a professionally oriented live theatre company presenting Sonoma County premieres of plays written within the past 6 years.

Main Stage West and its parent corporation, Performing Artists Coalition for Theater, were founded in April 2011 by a group of veteran and emerging performing and visual artists. MSW’s long term goals are: to widen the impact and improve the quality of professional performing arts in the North Bay; to revitalize the theater space at 104 North Main Street, Sebastopol, CA 95472; to provide artistic educational opportunities for youth and adults; and provide a vital meeting place for professional performing artists both to build and showcase theatrical and musical performances in an intimate dialogue with the residents of Sebastopol and the North Bay. Since its inception, Main Stage West has produced a staggering 49 plays, seven of them World Premieres. We have also hosted productions by other regional theaters, provided a venue for the Sebastopol Film Festival, local gallery showings and musicians to showcase their work. Productions, Education Programs and Events Main Stage West regularly produces eight fully staged plays each season. We provide paid and volunteer opportunities for visual artists, designers, musicians, costumers, actors, directors, and stage managers. Over the past alone we have employed more than 100 artists and dozens of volunteers. We have also served as a gallery for the visual arts and a venue for local concerts, lectures, and meetings. Our Summer Theater Camp engages young actors of ages 10 to 17 to study and perform Shakespeare during a three-week long intensive taught by seasoned theater professionals. They study acting, voice, stage combat, juggling, dancing and singing. The program culminates in a public performance at Main Stage West. Petaluma Shakespeare Company Education, Holidays Shop Local, Performing Arts Membership or Season Tickets, Theatre Petaluma Shakespeare Company, the only free Shakespeare in Sonoma County, was founded in 2016 opening its first season of Free Shakespeare by the River at Foundry Wharf with “As You Like It”. In 2017 Free Shakespeare by the River picked up momentum and popularity presenting its second season with an abridged version of “A Mid Summer Night’s Dream” delighting some of the youngest audience members to date. PSC also offered it’s first Shakespeare Summer Camps for Youths, collaborated with teachers at various schools to help fulfill performing art requirements by the State of California and brought Shakespeare to life for their students. PSC has had the pleasure of collaborating with the Green Music Center and the Phoneix Theater as well as participation in the Butter and Eggs Day Parade. PSC is a nonprofit- 501(c) (3) .

We are a group of individuals just like you – community-minded individuals with an interest in preserving performing arts.

With funding for arts disappearing in our schools, the responsibility for supporting the arts lies firmly with us. When we banded together to save the historic Raven Theater in downtown Healdsburg California, we had big dreams of enhancing the lives of every community member by offering a conveniently located, eclectic array of entertainment.

That same goal pushes us forward today, as we continue to look for ways to broaden our role as a gathering place, wow audiences with top-name acts, bring in both amateur and professional stage productions, add more world music and dance shows to our lineup, and enable a stimulating exchange of ideas through a speaker series. Did we mention that we want to do all of this in a first-rate theater environment? One of our key goals is to raise funds to improve Raven with dressing rooms, better seating, more bathrooms, offices, storage for set pieces, enhanced lighting and sound, and an inviting lobby/concession area.

The mission of the Raven Performing Arts Theater is to provide an inviting venue for performing arts and a vibrant center for community, educational, and public service activities.

Specifically,

To provide a long-term home for community performance groups including schools, churches, clubs, and public and private organizations.
To offer programming that encompasses a variety of professional performances including dance, acting, music, and festivals.
To provide a learning environment for children and adults, as individuals and in groups, to learn many aspects of theater operation, production, and presentation.

Short-term goals include a strong desire to expand our program offerings, upgrade the theater to enable a wider range of entertainers to perform on its stage. Longer term, we plan to convert the Raven Performing Arts Theater into a state-of-the-art performance venue, and create an endowment to sustain programming and theater maintenance.

Redwood Arts Council Arts Council/Alliance, Creative Sonoma Grantee, Holidays Shop Local, Music, Nonprofit, Performing Arts Membership or Season Tickets Born out of a love of house concerts and the desire to bring world class musicians to the West County, we present a series of concerts that rival the quality of chamber music performance in larger metropolitan areas; but on a smaller stage where our audience can see, hear and feel the music on a more intimate level. Each concert, a diverse program is carefully crafted and measured by how often and how deeply it moves us, both by the magnificence of the music being performed and by the powerful perceptions brought to it by the performers. We also partner with local schools to bring our artists to Sonoma County's budding musicians, either for a concert, a music workshop, or more intensive clinics.

The Playhouse is a venue consisting of two theaters. The GK Hardt Stage is a 184 seat theater that caters to Broadway style musicals and plays. The Monroe Stage is a more intimate Black Box three sided theater of 99 seats that features smaller comedies and dramas and is one of the most exciting venues to see a performance. The Mainstage and Black Box performances are presented throughout the year and total over 170 in one season. The 6th Street Playhouse also offers classes to adults, teens and youth interested in following the creative arts and developing theatrical skills. Over 300 students learn stage presence, song, dance, and stagecraft that includes technical sound, lighting, set design, and costume making. All students are given an opportunity to perform on either of our two public stages during a season's consisting seven student productions.

Just as the Theatre itself shines as one of the most memorable features of the Plaza, it also occupies a place in the hearts of many Sonomans. Over the past 25 years thousands of young people have performed in Witchie Poo Halloween shows, holiday shows, and Performing Arts Camps. Families cherish Roger and Diana Rhoten’s passion for the performing arts as a generator of leadership, self-confidence and creativity in their children. And going to a movie or a live performance at the Sebastiani is one of the defining experiences of life in our town. Films The Theatre has always brought the finest in film entertainment to Sonoma. With more screening areas we can do even more, bringing film series that will appeal to a variety of special interests -- films from other countries, cult classics as well as the standards, films that are “vintage” to the younger generation (Karate Kid or ET, anyone?) innovative food and film pairings, and even mini film festivals. Special Events The Sebastiani hosts many wonderful live performers, and with a new green room and an updated stage area, we can attract a great many more. Classical concerts, dance troupes, magic and cabaret, great names in literature, the arts, and politics—all will be able to bring their talents to enrich the artistic and intellectual life of Sonoma. Children’s Programs Nurturing the creativity, self-confidence, and talent of the next generation has always been the heart-felt mission of the Theatre. The Performing Arts Camp in the summer, Witchie Poo in the fall, and the holiday show in December are part of what mark the seasons in Sonoma. Generations of young people come back home to sing along with Witchie Poo; many of Sonoma’s young people have gone on to successful careers in the performing arts, and Roger and Diana Rhoten are trusted mentors to hundreds of young people who have found a second home at the Sebastiani.

Sonoma Bach Creative Sonoma Grantee, Holidays Shop Local, Music, Nonprofit, Performing Arts Membership or Season Tickets Sonoma Bach’s mission is to bring together and nurture a community of music-lovers in our beloved Sonoma region to share in the magnificent experience of early music. We know that this music from the distant past—sacred and worldly, vocal and instrumental, solemn and joyful—can speak powerfully to today’s audiences, and we reach out not only to those already familiar with its pleasures and beauties and traditions, but also to those for whom the music is brand-new. Our resident ensembles—including three vocal ensembles and our period-instrument orchestra—prepare and perform an annual series of eight concert sets, featuring the finest repertoire presented in imaginative programs designed to bring to life the magic of the music and to connect compellingly with our audiences. Most of our concerts take place in the Green Music Center’s 240-seat Schroeder Hall, with its live acoustics, intimate audience experience, and wonderful Brombaugh pipe organ. In addition, we offer site-specific concerts designed for special places in Sonoma County, such as our annual concerts in the domed and frescoed Church of St. Seraphim. Sonoma Bach offers a variety of opportunities for learning and exploration for singers, instrumentalists and listeners alike. Our classes, workshops and lectures focus upon four broad areas: Individual skills (such as vocal technique and sight-reading); ensemble skills; knowledge of repertoire; and ‘the big picture’: What does it all mean, and how can I connect? We believe passionately in the power of music to bring people together, to help us work through life’s challenges, and to serve as a catalyst for positive change. Valley Of The Moon Music Festival Education, Festivals/Markets, Holidays Shop Local, Music, Nonprofit, Performing Arts Membership or Season Tickets, Special Events The mission of the Valley of the Moon Music Festival is to bring the unique sound of Classical, Romantic and post-Romantic chamber music on period instruments to audiences in Sonoma and beyond, and to expand the horizons of up-and-coming chamber musicians in our Apprenticeship and TANK Trust Laureate Programs. Each July, in the town of Sonoma, in a series of concerts over three weekends, we bring an international roster of experts in period performance together with highly talented emerging artists to bring a familiar repertoire into a brilliant new light. The concert experience is enhanced by the very popular Blattner Lecture Series that puts the listening experience into historical and cultural perspective. In our Apprentice and TANK Trust Laureate Programs, we mentor emerging musicians, helping to ensure that period performance of Classical and Romantic music will continue to delight audiences far into the future. Our Festival was conceived and born in Sonoma, and Sonoma is at the center of our artistic efforts. We are honored to have a thriving and ongoing relationship with the local community through partnerships with local businesses, other non-profits, and community leaders.
