Sonoma County is home to more than 200 non-profit arts organizations along with 100s of other creative enterprises who work every day to enrich our lives with exhibits, performances, readings, happenings. Sometimes, they are caretakers of our collective cultural identity. Sometimes they are tour guides, leading us on an exploration into uncharted emotional waters. And always, they are the critical threads that tie together the fabric of our creative community. Browse this ever-growing gathering of our creative eco-system for ideas and opportunities.

Pegasus Theater Company Creative Sonoma Grantee, Performing Arts, Theatre Founded in 1998, Pegasus Theater Company is an all volunteer company that produces plays, staged readings, special events, and its annual Tapas New Short Play Festival. It is a California non profit located in Guerneville.

Pepperwood Education, Environmental, Kids/Family, Nonprofit, Sports/Outdoors Pepperwood is a non-profit organization, and our mission is to inspire conservation through science. Located in the heart of Sonoma County— a globally recognized biodiversity hotspot— Pepperwood manages a 3,200-acre biological preserve and the Dwight Center for Conservation Science. An important refuge for more than 900 species of native plants and wildlife, the preserve serves as a living laboratory hosting researchers from around the world. The Dwight Center has become a hub for ecological education and a conservation think tank. For more than a decade Pepperwood has worked to connect children, youth, and adults with nature. The purpose of the Inspiring Connections with Nature Initiative is to connect people to nature and inspire a lifelong conservation ethic through exploration, observation, science, and artistic expression. It will build upon current programming that includes our Students Conducting Environmental Inquiry (SCENIQ) program for elementary school children, TeenNat for youth ages 8-18, summer youth institutes, family-oriented outdoor experiences, and a host of community education classes and retreats. New and expanded activities through 2025 will include: partnerships with visual arts organizations to host art installations and gallery shows at Pepperwood; a new performing arts series on the preserve; new opportunities for filmmakers, photographers, and other visual artists to engage with the land; new outreach to local Latinx audiences; and potential partnerships with digital media experts to virtually amplify our programming. This timely initiative will encourage children, youth, and adults of diverse backgrounds to actively engage with the outdoors, learn about the natural world, and be inspired to protect nature and live sustainably.

Petaluma Arts Center

Petaluma Community Band Music, Performing Arts The Petaluma Community Band is an all-volunteer, adult concert band based in Sonoma County, California. Our nearly 50 members come from a wide variety of backgrounds, ages and occupations. All value lifelong learning and sharing of music with the community. We are proud to have several music educators among our participants. Current Director Arlene Burney taught award-winning bands at Casa Grande High School. The concert repertoire is extensive. It includes recent works by contemporary wind band composers, classical pieces, marches, folk music, and often a Broadway medley. The goal is to be sure each person in the audience finds several pieces particularly special. Concerts are performed at Casa Grande High School. They are free to the public. The band is now a class under the auspices of the Petaluma Adult School, and meets during a Fall and Winter/Spring semester, culminating in a concert. There are no formal auditions, however participants should have played at the advanced high school and/or college band level and be comfortable with sight-reading music. High school students may join on a space-available basis, but need to ask permission of the director, as well as their school instructor. An audition may be required. Participants should have their own instrument. Percussion equipment is provided. We ask commitment to regular attendance at Monday night rehearsals, 7:00–9:00 p.m. An enthusiasm for playing music and contributing to the town band tradition is essential! Petaluma Historical Museum Creative Sonoma Grantee, History/Heritage, Holidays Shop Local, Library, Museum, Museum and Gallery Memberships Preserving the Unique History of Petaluma and Providing Educational and Cultural Services to the Community. The former Carnegie library now houses Petaluma poultry, dairy, and Miwok Indian history exhibits from the 1850s. The cornerstone for this stately Carnegie Library was laid in 1904. The building, designed by local architect Brainerd Jones and built from locally quarried stone, features the largest free-standing leaded glass dome in Northern California. The building is in the neo-classical style, featuring original fan-glass windows, round leaded-glass windows, also original interior wood paneling and columns. It also houses a fine research library.

Keeping Music in the Schools

Our goal is simple: “keeping music in the schools”. The Petaluma Music Festival Board of Directors believe passionately in the positive influence of music in children’s lives. Proceeds from this annual event will be distributed among Petaluma’s public elementary and secondary schools to provide funding for their music programs. Funding for the arts is problematic in California, as there is never enough funding for all our school’s needs. With your attendance, you are making a difference, and we applaud you!

In 2018, the Petaluma Music Festival donated over $60,000 to the music programs in all Petaluma area public schools, and in the last 11 years, we have donated over $325,000!

Petaluma River Park Environmental, Nonprofit, Performing Arts, Visual Arts Petaluma River Park's mission is to meet our vital need for shared space that connects people, art, and nature.

Petaluma Shakespeare Company Education, Holidays Shop Local, Performing Arts Membership or Season Tickets, Theatre Petaluma Shakespeare Company, the only free Shakespeare in Sonoma County, was founded in 2016 opening its first season of Free Shakespeare by the River at Foundry Wharf with “As You Like It”. In 2017 Free Shakespeare by the River picked up momentum and popularity presenting its second season with an abridged version of “A Mid Summer Night’s Dream” delighting some of the youngest audience members to date. PSC also offered it’s first Shakespeare Summer Camps for Youths, collaborated with teachers at various schools to help fulfill performing art requirements by the State of California and brought Shakespeare to life for their students. PSC has had the pleasure of collaborating with the Green Music Center and the Phoneix Theater as well as participation in the Butter and Eggs Day Parade. PSC is a nonprofit- 501(c) (3) .

Play It Forward Music Foundation Creative Sonoma Grantee, Education, Foundation, Kids/Family, Music, Nonprofit, Nonprofit Services, Performing Arts, Special Events, Youth Arts Education Play it Forward Music Foundation is a nonprofit arts organization whose mission is to foster connection through music. We provide programming, instruments, lessons, and performance opportunities to people with limited access. We believe music has the power to transform lives both internally and collectively as well as enrich our community.

During COVID distance learning we are offering remote instruction for students at multiple sites throughout the state. We are full for the fall semester but are currently accepting applicants for a January 2021 program start date.

Pop Tha Trunk Art Show Art Gallery, Decorative Arts, Festivals/Markets, Special Events, Visual Arts Pop Tha Trunk Art Show is a pop up style event we do every couple of months. Our focus is on local artists,makers,small business, cannabis education & food vendors. I started Pop Tha Trunk because I feel Sonoma County has so many amazing artists, most of which don't have anywhere to show or haven't gotten the confidence and need somewhere to start.

Poyntlyss Sistars Band Dance, Music, Performing Arts, Special Events The Poyntlyss Sistars Rockin' Show Band is a popular dance band. Our show features familiar dance hits from the 50's to now, with costume changes between sets. We are a fully choreographed, visually and technically dynamic show band, and we bring lots of glitz and glitter to the stage.
