Community members will progress through a series of outdoor art stations where they will first create an envelope, then a handmade card, and last add a sentiment or poem. The final station is located adjacent to the Boyes Hot Springs post office, where participants will drop off their love letters for distribution to people who need an emotional lift, then join the old-fashioned ice cream social where they will get to know their fellow community members. NOVEMBER 4 | Dear Santa Rosa: Love Letters to a Place

Womb Space Collaborative Arts will invite neighbors and the wider community to imagine their local neighborhood’s past, present and future via love letters of visual and written language. Inspired by the people and places that make this their home, artists will synthesize and interpret content from love letters into an interactive “love letter” addressed to the community in the form of a public celebration. It will be a vibrant afternoon with music, installation art, performance, and a greater sense of community through the weaving together of stories.

NOVEMBER 18-19 | Creation Station

A mobile exchange booth and traveling art station will be created by local artists and builders from a repurposed phone booth on a trailer. The booth will carry art supplies and books as it visits local neighborhoods. It will include a tiny free library, planters with flowers, a “love letters” mailbox and love letter writing station, a community bulletin board and snacks when available.

FALL 2017 | La Nuestra Gente – the Mexican Community in Sonoma

Middle School students from Crescent Montessori will work with a professional photographer to capture images and stories of members of the Mexican Community in Boyes Hot Spring, showing how valuable and essential their work and culture are in our society. The project will work with local businesses to set up the photography/interview “stations” and will culminate in a limited edition book of the collection that can be exhibited around town, as well as a website dedicated to the work. Learn More

DECEMBER 2017 | Courthouse Square Bike Rack Yarn Bomb

50 bike racks located in the newly reunified Courthouse Square (Santa Rosa) will be yarn-bombed with colorful hand-crocheted sleeves. After the yarn creations have served their purpose, they will be disassembled, washed and sewn back together to make blankets for animal shelters in the County

JANUARY 2018 | PetaluMAGIC

A participatory event to create a piece of temporary public art bringing together artists and non-artists of all ages and backgrounds. This memorable experience will activate community, cultivate interaction, and enhance everyone’s sense of belonging. Petalumagic will generate an enlightening set of ideas — ranging from the fantastic and idealistic to the practical and feasible. This collaborative exploration will inspire possible solutions as the “city” enters an era of new challenges and opportunities.
