"My art is a personal journey in which I see the beauty of life whether it be in a person, animal, place or thing. I am grateful for my gift."

Mary Beth Sasso was born in Waterbury, Connecticut. As a young child she exhibited a strong talent in all areas of art with a natural ability to draw then in her early teens she began studying under the mentorship of Master Pastelist, Claudia Post, www.claudiapost.com. She continued working with Ms. Post for over 6 years. Sasso received a B.A. in Graphic Design from Central Connecticut State University and Paier College of Art; went on to have a successful career as a graphic designer for over 34 years. In 2010 she returned to her fine art roots with an exhibit of her work at Autumn Light Studio and Gallery in Connecticut and also reconnected with Claudia Post once again.

Sasso specializes in portraits of both people and animals. She captures the true nature and personality of the subject. She also taught drawing and pastel painting classes to beginner and intermediate students in the Farmington Valley for years. Currently, she is an Adjunct Professor in Art at Santa Rosa Junior College, teaching older adults pastel painting. In addition, she is a new arts integration resident teaching artist through the Luther Burbank Center for the Arts.

In 2015, along with her two dogs, LuluBella and Rufus, she relocated from Connecticut to Petaluma, California and has fallen in love with the beauty of the area. A passionate animal lover and activist she volunteers at the Petaluma Animal Shelter combining her love of art with her love of animals. She is currently working on a series of portrait and landscape paintings portraying the beauty she sees in the people and places here in Northern California. She finds her new home is where she has belonged for some time.
