Sonoma Valley Museum of Art

Sonoma Valley Museum of Art

SVMA’s mission is to build community around art, which reflects our commitment to providing critical arts education, public art and humanities programs, and innovative, thought-provoking exhibitions tied to social and human experiences. SVMA serves the Sonoma Valley region and a wide range of visitors from, primarily, the Bay Area, but also from across the nation and the globe.

SVMA invites all 4th and 5th Grade students and teachers in Sonoma Valley to participate in our free A.R.T.S. (Art Rewards The Student) Program and to utilize the creative resources we share through our at-home learning program ARTS@Home. Additionally, SVMA offers Gallery Visits year-round for K-12 Students and their teachers and provides opportunities for Arts Education outside of the school year through our Summer Studios program.

Art Rewards The Student (A.R.T.S)

Program description

Art Rewards the Student (A.R.T.S.) program provides experienced teaching artists to Sonoma 4th and 5th grade students free to the schools. In school classrooms, and in the Museum, students experience art-making projects themed to the Museum’s current exhibition that spark creativity and critical thinking.

A.R.T.S. includes docent-led tours during a Museum visit. This encourages students to make meaningful connections to works of art on view, promoting self-expression and individual perspectives through observation, analysis, and evaluation both in the galleries and during hands-on art making opportunities. Student works are installed in the Museum and displayed alongside the museum exhibition and are celebrated in a festive and fun community Family Art Day.
