Matthew Baker

Matthew Baker

Matthew is a multi-media commercial artist sharing his skills to our youth. His clients have included Disney, Marvel, Nickelodeon, Mattel, and many other name brands. After 17 years in the industry, he has decided to give back to our community and has been teaching industry level design in both public and private schools in Sonoma County for the past seven years. In November of 2022, Matthew joined Boomerang Plus, a 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to teaching students the important connection between school, business, and nonprofit organizations in building a stronger community.

The heart of Matthew’s programs is an interactive presentation that gives students an awareness of how art is used as a tool to communicate. In this course, he shows how the motion picture, food, television, toy, fashion, auto, and real estate industries rely on the use of shapes and color to communicate. Working with think tanks and focus groups in some of the world’s largest industries, He shares the mechanics of how these players use art that shapes the world around us..

“I had a great run as a commercial artist and now have many skills to share with our youth. I provide the platform, expose them to new tools, teach them how to use them, and their imaginations fill in the rest”.–Matthew Baker

LOGO WEAR - Graphics + apparel printing

Program description

Matthew’s classes are a streamlined approach to graphic marketing.  The software is customized to a small, precise set of tools. He explains the concepts of shapes, negative space, and color theory while teaching those tools staying focused on the end result.

At the conclusion of the first class, students will have the ability to design professional, industry standard graphics and print their first personalized t-shirt. As the classes progress, they slide files between Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator preparing their designs for advanced printing techniques. Students will get hands-on training with different equipment printing their own T-shirts, hoodies, and hats.

“I would love to help schools adopt this program using their own teachers.”  Matthew
