Catherine Sky

Catherine’s visual arts-based ecological literacy residencies for schools inspire children to connect with outdoor areas of the school campus through active exploration and creative interpretation. Catherine has a BFA in painting and art education from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and is currently a candidate for the MA in education from Sonoma State University where she has researched, developed and implemented a comprehensive arts-based ecological literacy curriculum which integrates NGSS and CA Visual Arts Standards. In addition to over 20 years of experience teaching art in public schools, Catherine has extensive experience in facilitating outdoor learning in school gardens and nature preserves.

Catherine’s studio practice is the foundation for her teaching. Through painting, she engages in a dialogue with the landscape through the language of line, form and color, memory and imagination. She believes that sharing this process with children can establish a relationship of caring and reciprocity with the natural world for future generations.
