Transcendence Theatre Company's Virtual Teen Intensive 2020

Transcendence Theatre Company's Virtual Teen Intensive 2020

Presented by Transcendence Theatre Company at Online/Virtual Space

We are so thrilled to have you joining us for what is sure to be an incredible and life-changing week as we explore our individual transcendence. We have created a high-level curriculum that is designed to give you the tools you need to create something bigger than yourself for greater social impact and prepare you for a professional life as a performing artist.

We have designed this online experience to be an absolute celebration of unity and the power of creating art after difficult and trying times. For many of us, this will be the first chance to create with an ensemble after the many disappointments experienced due to COVID-19. As artists, we find joy and success in collaboration, and we cannot wait to collaborate with each of you!

All Intensive classes will be offered ONLINE! Students will register for one of the two
available sessions and attend classes at the same time each day. Cabaret concerts will also be
presented in session groups, however, you are welcome to attend both to support your fellow
Intensive participants in other sessions!

As an Intensive Artist, you will be diving deep into the professional world of musical theatre.
There will be homework assigned from your daily classes, and you will be expected to work
individually to prepare for each next day. We will be cramming a lot into your five-day
experience and have high expectations for each of you. It will be a time of intense learning,
growth, collaboration, and fun!

ABOUT THE MASTERCLASSES
You can view the full week’s schedule at the end of this packet.
Improvisation + Voice & Movement: In this class, artists will explore the foundational tools
of performance: voice and movement. We will explore how these tools help us create
characters and bring stories to life. Through collaborative, group exercises, and individual
work, artists will develop skills that can be used on stage, on film, in auditions, and even in
job interviews!

Broadway Dance Styles: Dance offers an experience for artists to gain body awareness and
control through learning choreography and exploring creative movement. Through this
class, they will grow in confidence, poise, and self-expression. Taught by a Broadway
performer, this class will feature choreography from a current Broadway production! We
will warm-up, refine some dance skills, then learn a combination directly from the
Broadway stage.

Acting: This class, taught by a leader in the acting industry, will teach artists how to
approach songs and monologues as an actor first. As musical theatre performers, we are
always telling a story. But how? In this session, artists will learn how to connect to material,
to develop characters, and to give authentic performances.

Song/Monologue Performance: As we near the end of the week, we will start to stitch all of
our skills together in this performance class. Each artist will have a chance to present either
a song or a monologue and will receive direct feedback from a professional teaching artist
on finetuning their work. Artists will begin to understand how to present themselves for
auditions and performances to best represent their abilities.

Broadway Bootcamp: In our final day together, we will learn an entire Broadway
production number in just ninety minutes! Layering in everything you have learned from
the week, we will put it all together in this final day of singing, dancing, storytelling, and
collaboration. Led by an actor straight from Broadway, this class will make you feel like you
are in the rehearsal room for a Broadway musical.

On Friday, 7/24 (Session 1) and Saturday, 7/25 (Session 2), intensive artists will be given the
option of performing a solo song, dance, poem, etc during our solo concert. The concert will
take place prior to the streaming of Fantastical Family Night as a pre-show performance.
We will make sure you have everything you need for your virtual performance
(accompaniment tracks, etc). Solos can be any style of music, but must not be longer than
3:30 minutes in length and must not have any inappropriate lyrics. You will have an
opportunity to rehearse your solo performance during your individual coaching.

The performance will take place via Zoom. You will receive a password-protected link to
enter the performance. If you plan to perform a solo, we will provide you with specifics on
how to best execute this during the camp week.

In order to provide this opportunity for all, we have several need-based scholarships
available. We currently offer half and full scholarships for Kids Camp. If interested in a Kids
