Windsor's Global Cuisine - Around the World in 20 Blocks

Presented by Windsor Chamber of Commerce at Downtown Windsor

Windsor's Global Cuisine - Around the World in 20 Blocks
October 1- November 1st  (EXTENDED - artwork will remain up while the weather is good)

Since traveling the world has become difficult this year, the Windsor Chamber of Commerce invites those with an eye for art and an-unfulfilled desire to enjoy cuisine from far-flung regions to visit Windsor’s famous Town Green, our spirited Beverage District, or a newly discovered Viking enclave in the Lakewood Shopping Center. Twelve Windsor businesses will be displaying original art created for the Global Cuisine Project in their new outdoor service areas. Traversing the globe in Windsor can be done in only twenty blocks!  How about a little art with your Thai food?

A gallery walk is planned for Thursday October 1st as a part of an art exhibit that highlights the artists commissioned by the Windsor Chamber of Commerce to paint panels that will be on display beginning October 1 through 15. Global Cuisine Around in Twenty Blocks is funded by the National Endowment for the Arts and the County of Sonoma.

The panels will be displayed in newly created outdoor service areas of Windsor restaurants, breweries and wineries and will bring vibrant energy to the outdoor dining areas of the venues. Guests are encouraged to come to Windsor to enjoy these original works of art while enjoying Windsor’s global flavors. “We were looking for a creative way to support our local businesses and help expand their outdoor dining areas,” says Lorene Romero, Director of the Windsor Chamber of Commerce.  “This exhibit also allows us to support our talented local artists too.  It’s a win-win for all of us.”

The artists’ creations will be on display in front of businesses on the Windsor Town Green, in Lakewood Shopping Center, and the Beverage District on Bell Road. The areas where the artist-created panels will be on display is comprised of about 20 blocks, where guests will also discover a world of international flavors.

The artists chosen for the project will paint a 4-foot by 8-foot wooden panel on two sides.  One side will feature the Global Cuisine theme which will reflect the cuisine or wine served at the establishment, and the other side reflects a collaboration with the Windsor Dia De Los Muertos Committee.  For most of the businesses, the flip-side of the panel will depict an image celebrating Dia De Los Muertos, a Mexican holiday that celebrates the memory of deceased friends and family. The Dia de los Muertos theme panels will be displayed from October 16 through November 1st to coincide with the Windsor Dia De Los Muertos celebration.
