VOICES - Healdsburg's Creative Reopening
November 2020-June 2021

In this challenging time for all, our community needs our town to provide experiences of wonder, joy, and meaningful reflection. In this spirit, a coalition of community members, the Healdsburg Chamber, and city officials have agreed that one of the best ways to accomplish this is to turn to the creative energies of local artists.

To that end, the city hired Jessica Martin to curate a program of dynamic, interactive art projects, light installations, and temporary murals for the city, made possible though a funding partnership between Creative Sonoma and the Healdsburg Chamber, and a recent grant from the Rotary. The program, titled “Voices” is a series of temporary art projects to bring wonder, joy, and meaningful reflection to our community. Projects include site-specific light installations, video art, temporary murals, and interactive art projects.

For more information, visit the website:  www.artinhealdsburg.com or www.healdsburg.com.

Artwork will be installed during November. Light installations will run through January, depending on site. Other projects will run through June 2021. All projects will be sited in the Healdsburg downtown commercial/retail district, focused primarily on empty commercial spaces, outdoor walls for projections, and park areas.

Healdsburg Lights Project

As a component of the Voices program, artists have been commissioned to illuminate Healdsburg’s downtown with a series of light sculptures and site-specific light installations. The light projects will act as a guide to bring foot traffic to all areas of downtown, supporting local businesses, and bringing beauty and inspiration to us all. Light installations can be on display through the holidays, and may continue even through February, or upon the request of the city and building owners or renters.

This project is a tremendous opportunity for Healdsburg, as it will show the world our community’s resilience, creativity, innovation, and capacity to inspire—even through fires and a pandemic. This will also pave the way for an annual light festival, which will be sure to get better and better each year, drawing visitors and locals alike to celebrate our town.
