Healdsburg Jazz is proud to present internationally celebrated and acclaimed vocalist Terrie Odabi and her band featuring Simon Russell (keys), Anthony Paule (guitar), Kirk Crumpler (bass), and Pierre Parker (drums) for our special Black History Month program titled “Blues of Resistance”. Terrie is one of the leading blues singers performing today and is also outstanding in singing gospel, pop, rhythm and blues, and blues and swing. The program will feature her original protest and resistance compositions and additional standards and popular music.
Prior to the concert, Healdsurg Jazz\\\'s Artistic Director Marcus Shelby will lead the presentation “Soul of the Movement: Meditations on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.”. The foundation of Healdsburg Jazz is rooted in the tradition of black music, elegant swing, storytelling, and the power of the blues. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. understood how music could quickly inform, inspire, and empower the masses—especially with the blues, which has flexibility and a multiplicity of expressive tools including Irony, ethos, double entendres, tension, and release, and of course improvisation.
