This women’s workshop series follows the Amherst Writers & Artists (AWA) method with prompts and positive feedback to bolster our creative practice. It’s a supportive environment in which to experiment with writing.
Each 2-hour AWA session uses several prompts to spark memory and imagination and generate new writing. Whenever writers choose to read their work aloud they receive immediate, reflective group feedback. To support the development of each writer, our responses focus solely on what is strong and memorable in each piece — no critiques. Self-identified women and nonbinary writers with any level of experience (and writing in any genre) are welcome. Space is limited!
Amherst Writers & Artists is a non-profit organization whose mission is to support the voices of established and emerging writers, to free silenced and marginalized voices, and to promote respect for the artist in all writers. AWA defines a writer simply as "someone who writes."
Nicole R. Zimmerman was a 2019 recipient of the Discovered Awards for Emerging Literary Artists, produced by Creative Sonoma. She is an AWA affiliate, certified to facilitate workshops. Her work appears in literary journals and other publications including The Rumpus, Creative Nonfiction, Sonora Review, The Best Women's Travel Writing, and The Los Angeles Times.
