Luther Burbank Center for the Arts provides a year-long series of workshops for teachers interested in arts integration, for teaching artists, and for music educators in 2019-2020. 

TOOLS FOR TEACHERS

We know it is essential to include resources for teachers in providing arts education opportunities that prepare our next generation for success in school, work, and life. We are proud to present our Professional Development series through our partnership with the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, focusing on standards-based arts integrated lessons that you can take immediately back to your classroom. CEUs are available.

TEACHING ARTIST TRAINING 

Local teaching artists who are looking to further their training are invited to participate in LBC’s Teaching Artist Training (TAT) series. TAT provides ongoing training in arts integration, lesson creation, classroom management, and more. Aligning with our John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts partnership, National teaching artist Sean Layne leads a three-day seminar to kick off the year. Following this, teaching artists will design and implement multi-session residencies with the support of Luther Burbank Center staff and subsequent workshops. Once completed, artists will be eligible for inclusion in LBC’s esteemed cadre of teaching artists.

MARIACHI INTENSIVE

This five-day conference for music educators, professional musicians, and music education majors will provide the skills and hands-on experience essential to building a successful student mariachi program. Working with mariachi specialist Jeff Nevin, participants will learn the cultural elements, rhythms, and style unique to mariachi, will explore repertoire appropriate for students at various levels, and will learn to play and teach traditional instruments including the guitarrón and vihuela. Participants also have the opportunity to network and explore beautiful Sonoma County.

Workshops begin in September 2019 and take place through May 2019.
