PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT - Culturally Relevant SEL Through Music Education

 Nationwide, CA, Unknown

Episode 5 of this series offered by Save the Music and ArtsEdSEL

Culture is what students and teachers bring with them into a classroom, who they are, how they live and what they experience, which informs their identity. Every student, teacher, and person has culture that needs to be honored. In building SEL-based learning environments we make spaces where culture(s) lives and is nurtured so that students can learn through authentic connections and relationships that support empowerment and ownership. In this episode, Dr. Gloria Ladson-Billings and Franklin Willis will explore culturally relevant and culturally sustaining practices and approaches for music education that support student social and emotional skill development and health.

Webinars are free to attend and tailored for music educators but are also relevant for student musicians, parents and families, as well as music education advocates. A certificate of hours for professional development participation will be made available for attendees after each session. Learn more about the webinar series and watch past episodes on demand!
