The Community Center’s professional teaching artists will come to your classroom and guide students through art-based projects tailored to your curriculum. Adaptable for all grade levels. 1 Multi day instruction available
- Trash Art: Modeled after the popular and exciting event “Trashion Fashion” and “Trashion Fashion Barbies” where local artists turn barbies rescued from Recology Sonoma into amazing works of art. Students will explore the meaning of trash through lessons on sustainability. Students will take items rescued from their destination to the landfill and through innovative design and fashion techniques will transform their “trash” into a work of art. Teachers will guide the class as they learn to conceptualize artistic ideas and reflect on their challenges and successes while creating artistic statements to interpret their piece. Grades 1-3 projects may include self portraits made from common recycled objects and recycled puppets. Grades 4-8 will use the iconic barbie rescued from Recology Sonoma as the base for their art piece. Students will look at their surrounding world in a whole new light and see things not for what they are but for what they could be.
- Clay Based Art Experiences: guide students through fun and meaningful lessons that will help them make connections to cultural traditions, historical techniques, geography and science. All grade levels will experience the material in a deeper way as they explore geography and touch on how materials travel across the world.
