2021 Sonoma Sound Project

August 2021

In the latest chapter of Creative Sonoma’s support for our music community, this year we collaborated with Sonoma County Tourism (SCT) to create a new soundtrack designed to capture the emotion of exploring Sonoma County. With funding from a National Endowment for the Arts Grant, matched by SCT, we enlisted GRAMMY-recognized, local songwriter Cliff Goldmacher, to write the soundtrack.

Once the new song was approved by SCT and the desired instrumentation was set, Goldmacher went into the studio for a day-long session with 4 top local musicians to lay down the new tracks. Stuart Markham of White Whale Studios engineered the session and Goldmacher produced it.

In addition to Goldmacher (left to right, above, stills from the “The Making of Sonoma Sound” video), musicians included Kevin Carducci (bass and vocals), Mike Emerson (keys), Stella Heath (vocals), and Zach Morris (percussion). SCT also hired Petaluma videographer Vegar Abelsnes to shoot a “making of” video, to give a behind the scenes look at what it’s like to be a musician in Sonoma County.

SCT will use the new soundtrack for its annual promotional videos to give potential visitors an enticing introduction to what makes this county so special.  “The Making of Sonoma Sound” video is now featured on the SCT website, along with details on all the participating musicians – including their social sites, where to listen to and buy their music, and their “insider” recommendations for where they like to hear live music.

The SCT website is one of the most highly visited in all of the county so it will serve as a great distribution channel for the new song and the participating musicians specifically, and for the richness of our music community generally.
