The Arts Drive Economies

Creative Sonoma has released an economic impact study showing that Sonoma County arts and cultural nonprofits are significant contributors to our economy, and the news is good. The 42 participating organizations generated $80.4 million in annual economic activity and supported 2,684 full-time equivalent jobs!

The Arts & Economic Prosperity 5: The Economic Impact of Nonprofit Arts & Cultural Organizations & Their Audiences study was conducted by Americans for the Arts, the nation’s leading nonprofit organization for advancing the arts and arts education. Sonoma County organizations submitted financial information from their institutions for 2015, and conducted surveys of their audience members over the course of the entire 2016 calendar year.

This page includes links to a host of resources regarding the study, including a calculator to determine your own organization’s impact. The study results are broken down into topics of interest and include two examples of how Sonoma County organizations make an impact. If you’d like to upload your own Sonoma Story, please send your submission to: CreativeSonoma@sonoma-county.org.
