Santa Rosa Zine Fest Returns April 20

Celebration of DIY publications will have more exhibitors than ever

The fourth annual Santa Rosa Zine Fest (#SRZF24) returns to the Northwest Santa Rosa Library on Saturday, April 20, with more than 60 exhibitors and four interactive workshops. Co-presented by the Sonoma County Library and Santa Rosa Zine Collective (SRZC), the zine fair is a free, outdoor event celebrating do-it-yourself publications and the creative people who make them.

Pre-events

●       Wednesday, April 17, from 6:30-7:30 p.m. at Central Santa Rosa Library: Intro to Zines Workshop with Luminescent Squid

○       Two local high school creators will teach zine-making techniques, share about their process and educate about the history of zines at this all-ages, beginner-friendly workshop. 

●       Friday, April 19, from 6-8 p.m. at Brew Coffee & Beer: Zine Social with Jordan Sea

○       Guests may purchase drinks and snacks while they make or trade zines with fellow makers. Sonoma County Zine Club founder Jordan Sea will host Zine Bingo.

Main Event

●       Sat. April 20 from 1-5 p.m. at Northwest Santa Rosa Library: Santa Rosa Zine Fest

○       60+ exhibitors from Sonoma County and beyond will share their work all day

○       Print.Organize.Protest (P.O.P.) returns all day with free screen-printing 

■       Guests can bring their own clothes or fabric to print on or use paper and fabric provided.

○       Artists Rayona Lovely Wilson, Amanda Ayala and Gladys Ochoa will each offer free drop-in 45-minute workshops on various aspects of zine-making, from character creation to writing and bookmaking. Ochoa’s workshop will be presented in Spanish.

What to Expect

“Our zine fair has tripled in size in just three years–from about 20 exhibitors in 2022 to the 60 exhibitors we’re hosting this year,” said Mer Morgan, one of the founders of Santa Rosa Zine Collective (SRZC). “Along with the growth in participating zine makers, attendance has grown astronomically each year.”

This year, SRZC is creating a map of exhibitors, where attendees will be able to find creators and see what languages exhibitors speak. For deaf attendees, ASL interpreters will be onsite throughout the fair.
