SUMMER APPRENTICES: Youth Visual Artists

Artstart is accepting applications for the Summer Apprenticeship Program for aspiring artists between the ages of 14 and 21 years of age.

The program runs for 5 weeks, starting June 25th and ending July 25th, on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursday from 9am to 3pm, and the first Friday of the session, June 28th. This is the 20th consecutive year that Artstart has awarded $500 scholarships to aspiring young artists on completion of the program. Admission is based on a jury of the artists’ visual arts portfolio. Application deadline is Monday, May 15, 2019 and can be found at (no application fee).

This is a career training apprenticeship program and is also beneficial for any teens interested in art. It provides the opportunity to create public art that is placed throughout Sonoma County. Professional artists guide apprentice artists though the process of meeting with clients, designing and creating the project, and installing the work. Past installations can be seen all over Sonoma County including Dierk’s Midtown Café, mosaics and sculpture at Julliard Park and Prince Memorial Greenway, painted storm drains in Railroad Square, and mural and mosaic bench at the Rohnert Park Senior Center. Along with new projects and multiple artistic disciplines, we teach repair and maintenance of existing public art projects.
