Teen Services Sonoma
Each year, Teen Services Sonoma (TSS) provides ~ 300 Sonoma Valley teens with essential “soft skills” and experiences for successful employment.
In this project, TSS partners with local artists in a unique, and impactful endeavor – a sculpture of discarded culinary items and bicycle parts welded together into a 6-foot+ Tree of Possibilities on which hang flattened spoons imprinted with the hopes and dreams of our teens. Why spoons, sieves, and old bicycle chains? These represent the micro-businesses of TSS: the Lovin’ Oven preparing teens for culinary careers and Operation Bicycle introducing teens to the field of mechanics.
Teens will learn about the art of welding both as a career and an expression of personal creativity. They will experience decision-making, teamwork, a sense of accomplishment, and self-expression.
The public will enjoy a creative and whimsical sculpture of discarded everyday materials, gain insight into the hopes and dream of youth, and add their own thoughts to the tree.
There will be a sense of bonding between those who create the Tree and those who enjoy it.
