Sonoma County is home to more than 200 non-profit arts organizations along with 100s of other creative enterprises who work every day to enrich our lives with exhibits, performances, readings, happenings.  Sometimes, they are caretakers of our collective cultural identity.  Sometimes they are tour guides, leading us on an exploration into uncharted emotional waters.  And always, they are the critical threads that tie together the fabric of our creative community.  Browse this ever-growing gathering of our creative eco-system for ideas and opportunities.

6th Street Playhouse
6th Street Playhouse Creative Sonoma Grantee, Education, Holidays Shop Local, Performing Arts Membership or Season Tickets, Theatre, Youth Arts Education The Playhouse was created in 2004 by the merger of two of Sonoma County’s most prominent and oldest theatre companies, Santa Rosa Players and Actor’s Theatre. Together, with the help of G.K. Hardt and other community leaders and donors, the Playhouse renovated the 107-year-old Del Monte cannery in the Historic Railroad Square District. The $1.3 million dollar renovation resulted in a state-of-the-art theatre which opened to wide acclaim in 2005. It is the only theatre space designed by theatre artists for theatre in Sonoma County. In 2007, the Playhouse added the 99-seat Studio Theatre in another part of the same warehouse building. This theatre was especially designed for the production and development of new, cutting-edge plays. In 2010 additional classroom and rehearsal space was added. From the beginning, the Playhouse has provided a high quality School of Drama that provides a year-round program of affordable theatre classes and on-stage experiences for children, youth and adults. The Playhouse is unique in its willingness to include all levels of ability, from professional to community actors.  Annually, the Playhouse reaches over 30,000 patrons, residents and visitors with over 200 performances (14 professional productions), 7 shows on the main stage, 7 shows in the Studio Theatre, a Holiday Cabaret series, 3 fundraising events, new play readings; winter, spring and fall School of Drama youth productions and adult classes; a summer theatre camp for children and youth, as well as numerous special events, cabarets, staged readings, workshops and presentations.

A Theater for Children

For all the details, visit our website https://www.atheaterforchildren.com Our Vision A Theater For Children was founded in 2016 to serve the residents of Sonoma County.  We offer low-cost performances for young audiences and offer free opportunities for children to perform. We recognize that the theater arts provide children with life-changing opportunities to develop character and confidence, promote cooperation among multiple generations and build a diverse and vibrant community of individuals who value creativity and learning. Our Programs Participation in the magic of theater, whether behind the scenes or in front of an audience, sparks imagination and ingenuity and helps to build community and character. A Theater For Children provides quality affordable live entertainment to the community in our mainstage shows. Each year we produce three main stage productions. Our shows include well-loved interpretations of classic children’s literature, as well as contemporary stories and new works. Some of our shows: McQuadle: A Dragon's Tale Cinderella, Cinderella, a participation play for children Dorothy & The Wizard of Oz, another child participation play. Disney's 101 Dalmatians KIDS Alex & The Magic Staff, by local artists Bridget Palmer and Peter B. Allen. For the 2019-2020 Season, we received a Cultural Arts Grant from Creative Sonoma to support our theme of "Children Embracing Nature Through Theater Arts." This grant supported our efforts to produce Disney's Lion King KIDS in November 2019. The production included the theme of the balance of nature and incorporated audience participation with an African animal headband arts project for children and the inclusion of audience voices and movement. Our March 2020 production, the California premiere of "Save Our Planet", also contained a nature preservation theme, and children were invited to participate by rapping along with the performers. Our two school site-specific versions of Disney's Lion King KIDS, at Bellevue and Kid Street Charter schools, including 60-100 children in each production. For a time, both projects had to be canceled because of the pandemic, but fortunately the Kid Street Lion King KIDS did take place in 2023. We dedicated our 2020-2021 Season to the theme of "It Takes a Village to Raise a Child." Although the Pandemic shutdown curtailed many of our plans, we were able to offer a Youth Playwriting Competition, a Playwriting Workshop, and a Zoom production of Alex & The Magic Staff in 2020. On April 24th, 2021, we collaborated with the Children's Museum of Sonoma County to create a fun day-long educational and entertaining event honoring Earth Day! Most recently, we reprised McQuadle: A Dragon's Tale, Disney's Lion King KIDS, Disney's Moana JR, and Disney's Beauty & the Beast JR. In Spring 2024, we're producing Witchs v. Princesses and Disney's A Little Mermaid JR. Who We Are Our organization is run by Executive Director, Bridget Palmer, President, Jim Plaisted, and Treasurer,  Beverly Esperon. Our events are created and produced by volunteers from the Sonoma County community. ATFC is a Fiscally Sponsored Project of Inquiring Systems INC. (ISI), 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization, in Santa Rosa, CA.

Our Creative Arts programs include an array of therapeutic, expressive, educational, and recreational activities and events in the areas of visual arts, theatre, music, movement, and more. These programs and activities are designed to strengthen social and emotional skills, boost self-esteem, and provide critical tools that yield lifelong benefits for participants. The Creative Arts team provides after-school groups, summer camps, in-school performances and workshops, family engagement activities, and community outreach and education. Many of our participants have been impacted by challenging experiences early in life, including toxic stress, special needs, and trauma. CPI’s Creative Arts team, in addition to contributing their professional artistic skills and expertise, are trained in trauma-informed care, strengths-based practice, and building protective factors that strengthen families and communities.
Cinnabar Theater

To achieve our mission, we create an environment that fosters the experimentation and exploration needed to produce high-quality performances, which can be enjoyed for their technique and artistry as well as for their connection to life and living. Additionally, we are committed to training young people in the performing arts so they can make lasting and meaningful connections between the arts and their daily lives. Located in a 1908 red schoolhouse on a grassy hill on the outskirts of Petaluma, Cinnabar Theater was founded in 1972 by opera singer Marvin Klebe and his wife, Jan. A former San Francisco Opera baritone, Klebe left big city life to create a small-scale performance space where creative people could collaborate and experiment. The Klebes and their four sons renovated the schoolhouse into what it is today: a performance space that provides North Bay residents and visitors a mix of plays, musicals, operas, and concerts. In 1983, we introduced our Young Repertory Theater (“Young Rep”) program. Created to counteract the ongoing decline of arts funding in public schools, Young Rep serves youth ages 4-18 from throughout Sonoma County. An ongoing program, Young Rep trains youth in the performing arts, specifically plays and musical theater. Through carefully crafted, age-appropriate curriculum, youth explore how their daily lives connect to the performing arts, and discover their own talents. Young Rep activities, which include summer camps and after-school programming, culminate into an average of five live performances, starring our Young Rep youth, annually. To ensure all youth who seek to explore the performing arts have the opportunity to participate, we offer scholarships for socioeconomically disadvantaged youth. Annually, 120 youth participate in Young Rep. In the 2016-17 season, we produced seven professional plays and musicals, two Young Rep performances, six concerts, and eight special performances, including puppetry and improvisational comedy. Over 6,000 individuals attended these performances, with 75% of our audience comprising Sonoma County residents.

Through theatre, music, dance, and storytelling, we aim to strengthen community ties, broaden the cultural horizons of the entire community, and help prepare people of all ages for careers in the performing arts. Our History: The Cloverdale Performing Arts Center, Inc., a non-profit organization, was originally formed in May 2007 to provide a vehicle for education in, production and development of the performing arts, included but not limited to drama, musical and related cultural productions and to encourage community participation in all aspects thereof. The establishment of a performance space was intended to aid in the ongoing improvement of rundown areas; bolster the economic future and vitality of not only our downtown through increased traffic, but also our hotels and restaurants; and to provide a forum for our community to gather to share in what we, the community, can create. The Cloverdale Grange was our first home. That building, located at 201 Commercial Street, was to have been remodeled into a professional theatre built with funds from the City of Cloverdale, but then the building formerly known as Clover Fitness Center located 209 North Cloverdale Blvd became available early in 2008. CPAC then entered into a contract with the City of Cloverdale to purchase and renovate that building. Cloverdale Performing Arts Center will continue to manage the use of the Grange Building as a performance space, theatre annex, office, classroom and workshop space.

Jake Ward is the founder/director of multiple local arts enterprises including North Bay Cabaret, a monthly variety show series which occurs every third Friday at Whiskey Tip in Santa Rosa, and most recently, the Roseland Community Festival which debuts on Sunday October 1st. As an emcee, booker, and creative consultant, Jake Ward has worked with a number of local events and clients such as The Handcar Regatta, Railroad Square Music Festival, Rivertown Revival, Courthouse Square Festival, The Kinetic Carnivale, and many more.

We select shows written within the past 6 years and never presented in Sonoma County before. They may have had successful runs in other major cities. Our audience is hungry for new, edgy, provocative and left leaning works. ABOUT THE STUDIO THEATRE The 2,500 square foot Studio Theatre is located at the Luther Burbank Center for the Arts and can be accessed from the South Parking Lot. It contains its own box office, lobby, tech booth, intimate 60 seat theatre, dressing rooms, scene and costume shop and classroom space. The new STUDIO THEATRE is the artistic home of Young Actors STUDIO and Left Edge THEATRE. Young Actors Studio provides training and performance opportunities to young people aged 6-18. With these basic human attributes ingrained into the youth of our communities, enlightenment is assured for our future. Our mission here at the LDEI is to fill the education gap created by the mainstream. Our vision is to see every child learn to appreciate their self-worth, resilience and power. Social emotional skills gained from our program are self-confidence, teamwork, and perseverance. Success of the program will be measured in three ways; by the obvious joy in the children's minds and hearts and the culminating event produced, and an online anonymous survey students and parents can fill out to give feedback. Historically after school programs focused on either just physical content or on academic content, here at LDEI, we understand children are multifaceted and deserve to have every aspect of their being served. Our program broadens children's horizons by teaching them…to keep going when its hard and that's when things pay off. Our program develops character by having students work closely together, building an interdependence that shows working on the same goal moves all forward. Building much needed community awareness. Main Stage West

Main Stage West and its parent corporation, Performing Artists Coalition for Theater, were founded in April 2011 by a group of veteran and emerging performing and visual artists. MSW’s long term goals are: to widen the impact and improve the quality of professional performing arts in the North Bay; to revitalize the theater space at 104 North Main Street, Sebastopol, CA 95472; to provide artistic educational opportunities for youth and adults; and provide a vital meeting place for professional performing artists both to build and showcase theatrical and musical performances in an intimate dialogue with the residents of Sebastopol and the North Bay. Since its inception, Main Stage West has produced a staggering 49 plays, seven of them World Premieres. We have also hosted productions by other regional theaters, provided a venue for the Sebastopol Film Festival, local gallery showings and musicians to showcase their work. Productions, Education Programs and Events Main Stage West regularly produces eight fully staged plays each season. We provide paid and volunteer opportunities for visual artists, designers, musicians, costumers, actors, directors, and stage managers. Over the past alone we have employed more than 100 artists and dozens of volunteers.   We have also served as a gallery for the visual arts and a venue for local concerts, lectures, and meetings. Our Summer Theater Camp engages young actors of ages 10 to 17 to study and perform Shakespeare during a three-week long intensive taught by seasoned theater professionals. They study acting, voice, stage combat, juggling, dancing and singing. The program culminates in a public performance at Main Stage West. Critical Praise Main Stage West has consistently received the highest critical praise, with four and five star reviews for every production, as well as awards from the Bay Area Theater Critics Circle, Marquis Theater Awards, the City of Sebastopol and listings in the North Bay Bohemian’s Top Ten Torn Tickets for every year.

Clientele includes CANVAS (Concierge Alliance of Napa Valley and Sonoma), Santa Rosa Salsa, the Flamingo Resort & Spa, San Diego Ballet, Duvall Productions, Luscious Noise, Conducting Preparations, and others.

Mission Statement/Purpose:

Bringing the world together through music, dance, art and cultural exchange. Our purpose is to provide musical instruments of the world to the public, and to promote all teachers, students, artists, enthusiasts and performers regardless of age, ability, gender, race, ethnicity, religious or sexual orientation.

Core Programs and Services:

The Musical Instrument Library has two core services: Lending of musical instruments and providing a venue for musicians, dancers, artists, and children to study, cultivate, teach, and perform.

Racial Equity Statement:

The Musical Instrument Library strives to represent the world through music, art, and dance. We provide a safe space where everyone has access to musical instruments, education, dance, and art- especially to those who would usually not have the opportunity. It is our goal to appreciate and hold sacred the rich, musical cultures of the world, highlighting and uplifting artists from the cultures and places of origin and providing them with a platform, stage, classroom, instruments and other resources with which to cultivate and share their art. The Musical Instrument Library provides free and sliding scale services in order to make these things more accessible to those who are faced with bias, oppression, institutionalized racism, and economic hardship. By providing a platform for this education, we can combat ignorance and promote understanding and respect for all human beings.

We believe the arts are fundamental to the human experience. We strive to be the vehicle that brings arts opportunities with a strong educational foundation, and focus on career pathways to all people in our communities. We believe that all students should be able to have access to theatre and arts opportunities, to that end we have never turned away a student on ability to pay. Our mentorship programs have helped our students grow into teachers, directors, and tech management. We have a robust volunteering program for friends and family and welcome parent and caretaker involvement.

We operate three non-profit media stations: KRCB TV, KPJK TV, and KRCB FM Radio 91. NorCal Public Media is a highly visible local arts, cultural, educational, news, and community information media hub, offering a unique service to the Bay Area in order to encourage full participation in community and society. NorCal Public Media expands options in providing and responding to new technologies through enhancement of technological functions and equipment. NorCal Public Media believes that civil society thrives through community alliances and collaborations.

Petaluma Shakespeare Company
Petaluma Shakespeare Company Education, Holidays Shop Local, Performing Arts Membership or Season Tickets, Theatre Petaluma Shakespeare Company, the only free Shakespeare in Sonoma County, was founded in 2016 opening its first season of Free Shakespeare by the River at Foundry Wharf with “As You Like It”.  In 2017 Free Shakespeare by the River picked up momentum and popularity presenting its second season with an abridged version of “A Mid Summer Night’s Dream” delighting some of the youngest audience members to date. PSC also offered it’s first Shakespeare Summer Camps for Youths, collaborated with teachers at various schools to help fulfill performing art requirements by the State of California and brought Shakespeare to life for their students. PSC has had the pleasure of collaborating with the Green Music Center and the Phoneix Theater as well as participation in the Butter and Eggs Day Parade. PSC is a nonprofit- 501(c) (3) .
Pulse Arts

PULSE Arts is dedicated to developing accessible arts programs, supporting intergenerational public arts projects, and connecting schools and professional creatives. We teach the value of social conscience, cultural influence, and empowerment through our work.  We bring to life the vision of artists and educators who hope to make a difference in the lives of youth and creatively impact communities throughout California.

We are a group of individuals just like you – community-minded individuals with an interest in preserving performing arts.

With funding for arts disappearing in our schools, the responsibility for supporting the arts lies firmly with us. When we banded together to save the historic Raven Theater in downtown Healdsburg California, we had big dreams of enhancing the lives of every community member by offering a conveniently located, eclectic array of entertainment.

That same goal pushes us forward today, as we continue to look for ways to broaden our role as a gathering place, wow audiences with top-name acts, bring in both amateur and professional stage productions, add more world music and dance shows to our lineup, and enable a stimulating exchange of ideas through a speaker series. Did we mention that we want to do all of this in a first-rate theater environment? One of our key goals is to raise funds to improve Raven with dressing rooms, better seating, more bathrooms, offices, storage for set pieces, enhanced lighting and sound, and an inviting lobby/concession area.

The mission of the Raven Performing Arts Theater is to provide an inviting venue for performing arts and a vibrant center for community, educational, and public service activities.

Specifically,

  • To provide a long-term home for community performance groups including schools, churches, clubs, and public and private organizations.
  • To offer programming that encompasses a variety of professional performances including dance, acting, music, and festivals.
  • To provide a learning environment for children and adults, as individuals and in groups, to learn many aspects of theater operation, production, and presentation.
  Short-term goals include a strong desire to expand our program offerings, upgrade the theater to enable a wider range of entertainers to perform on its stage.  Longer term, we plan to convert the Raven Performing Arts Theater into a state-of-the-art performance venue, and create an endowment to sustain programming and theater maintenance.
